Property tax homestead exemption forms for 2025 have a suggested deadline date for return of June 1st.

Effingham County Supervisor of Assessments Pam Braun announced that her office will accept the forms anytime they are turned in up to the 2025 Board of Review deadline, and the June 1st deadline is a suggested date. Braun said if you have not turned the form in, you’re asked to do so when you can and she said not to be worried.

Over 4,500 forms are mailed and a return suggested date is needed to assist processing. The 2025 Renewals for all Homestead Exemptions previously applied for were mailed out last February. If you turn 65 during the tax years 2024 or 2025, you can still file for Senior Exemptions. Also available are Disabled Persons (declared by Social Security or Physician), Disabled Veterans (rated 30% or higher) and Home Improvement Exemption (for taxable improvements to existing Principal Residences). You must apply in person for the first application with a form of Identification showing address and age.

Some applications and renewals require further documentation.

You can contact the Effingham County Supervisor of Assessments Office at 217-342-6711 or stop by at 101 N Fourth St, Suite 400 in Effingham.
