(JACK STEINMAN)

Two pieces of legislation introduced by local St. Rep. Adam Niemerg of Dieterich passed the Illinois House during this last week of the spring legislative session. Both measures honor the service of two men from the region.

House Joint Resolution 30 passed unanimously and designates the intersection of Illinois Routes 49 and 33 on the north side of Willow Hill as the Jackie Wayne “Jack” Steinman Memorial Highway for his many years of service to the community and in the US Army.

Niemerg said, “The recipient of many awards including the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and the Purple Heart for his service during the Vietnam War, Jack Steinman served 20 years with the Willow Hill Elementary School in Jasper County, was a member of the Potter’s House Ministry, and was a life member of Effingham VFW Post #1769. Jack Steinman was a respected member of his community and deserves this honor to be remembered by the many people who knew and loved him.”

The other measure, House Joint Resolution 8, designates Interstate 74 at mile marker 191 as the Trooper Corey S. Thompson Memorial Highway in honor of the Illinois State Trooper who was killed in the line of duty.

Both pieces of legislation are now headed to the Illinois Senate for consideration.
