Effingham Unit 40 board members Monday recognized retirees for their years of service to the district.

Those who could attend the board meeting (LEFT TO RIGHT) were: Troy Kyle, Kim Knierim, Sandy Lohman, Mary Walters, Theresa Wolke and Barb Probst.

Each retiree will be recognized with a hanging flower basket and a brick paver that will be placed by the “Flaming Heart” statue at the high school.

Superintendent Andy Johnson reported that attendance was at 2,326…eight fewer than the previous month, but still 45 more than one year earlier. Also, Jane Willenborg will continue as Unit 40’s representative on the Eastern Illinois Area Special Education Board with new board member Brandon Duncan replacing former board member Steve Bone as the alternate.

Board members approved a Memorandum of Understanding with the Effingham Classroom Teachers Association for the flex teacher position. There was an agreement for six flex teachers during the past school year, but that number will go to 10 for the coming year.
