A local man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for a sex offense.
62-year-old Richard L. Bailey of Effingham pleaded guilty to aggravated criminal sexual abuse. Bailey is a registered sex offender stemming from a conviction in Coles County in 2002. He was sentenced to five years in prison for aggravated criminal sexual abuse involving a victim under age 13.
Effingham City Police Chief Jason McFarland said an investigation on January 31 of this year led to Bailey’s arrest.
In exchange for the guilty plea, Bailey received the 10-year sentence. Once out of prison, Bailey will serve four years of mandatory supervised release.
