Carol Sue McElroy Hicks, 65, of Cowden, Illinois, passed away on June 19, 2026, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois. She entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior surrounded by the love and prayers of those who cherished her most.

Born on December 26, 1960, in Shelbyville, Illinois, Carol lived a life marked by strength, compassion, and devotion to the people she loved. She carried herself with determination and a quick wit, and she was known for her sharp sense of humor and her ability to bring light to any room she entered. Her life reflected a steady faith and a generous heart, and she left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing her. Carol was the beloved wife of Randy Hicks and a proud and loving mother to Tiffney Vivo, Kevin McElroy, and Brian Nolan. Her family was the center of her world, and she found her greatest joy in being present for the people she loved. She was especially devoted to her grandchildren, Kaden, Kaylie, Kael Koeberlein, and Avanelle Vivo, who brought her endless happiness and pride. Her love for her family was deep, steadfast, and unconditional, and it will continue to be felt in the lives they carry forward. She is also lovingly remembered by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Allen and Vicki McElroy, and Tony and Sharon McElroy, along with many extended family members, dear friends, and all those whose lives were touched by her kindness and friendship. Carol valued relationships and made others feel seen, heard, and cared for. Her empathy extended far beyond her immediate family, and she had a remarkable way of offering encouragement, comfort, and honesty in equal measure. Carol was a woman of conviction who stood firmly for what she believed was right. She was a passionate advocate for rescue animals and for individuals with special needs, and she never hesitated to speak up for those who could not always speak for themselves. She believed that every life had value, and she lived that belief through her actions and the way she treated others. Her compassion was not passive, but active and sincere, and it reflected the depth of her character. Although her passing leaves an immeasurable void, her family finds comfort in knowing that she rests peacefully in the loving arms of Christ. Her legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched, the love she gave so freely, and the values she instilled in those who knew her best. The memories she created, the lessons she taught, and the example she set will remain a source of strength and comfort for years to come. Carol will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Her strength, laughter, and compassion will remain in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
