Teutopolis school board members and administrators continued at this week’s meeting their discussion of long-term facility planning and the potential renovation of Teutopolis Grade School.

Teutopolis Superintendent Matt Sturgeon said that following the April community listening session and the collection of feedback from parents, staff, alumni, and community members, the District worked with its architect to develop several conceptual renovation floor plan options and corresponding 3D renderings for Board consideration.

As part of the discussion, Sturgeon provided a historical review of facility planning conversations dating back to 2024, reviewed information currently available through the district’s “Facilities: A Clear View” website, summarized community feedback received through recent engagement efforts, and outlined district reserves that could potentially be allocated toward a future project.

The Board also reviewed several financing scenarios prepared by financial firm Stifel to better understand potential borrowing options, project affordability, and the impact of various funding approaches. The Board also reviewed a potential timeline should it choose to consider placing a referendum question before voters in the future.

No action was taken regarding a referendum, but the Board directed Sturgeon to make the presented materials publicly available, prepare a draft resolution and draft ballot question for Board review at the July meeting, and continue planning additional community engagement opportunities. Those engagement efforts will provide additional opportunities for parents, staff, taxpayers, and community members to review information, ask questions, and provide feedback as the process continues.

Meanwhile, Sturgeon provided the Board with an update on the junior high school expansion project and on summer maintenance projects.

The Board accepted a letter of resignation from Kelli Wells as junior high Scholar Bowl coach, Laurie Thompson as high school girls basketball coach, Toby Isley as junior high girls 8th grade track coach, and Rachel Habing as junior high girls 7th grade track coach. Board members also hired Kara Probst as junior high Co-Student Council sponsor, Nicole Vineyard as junior high yearbook sponsor, Austin Johnson as junior high assistant boys basketball coach, Katelyn Jansen as high school assistant volleyball coach, and three Teutopolis High School lunchroom student workers.
