A former substitute teacher in the Shelbyville school district has been sentenced after pleading guilty to indecent solicitation of a child.

32-year-old Hayden Miller of Shelbyville was arrested by Coles County authorities in 2024. Miller was an employee of the Shelbyville school district. School officials say none of Miller’s acts occurred on school property or during any school events.

Miller was placed on two years’ probation, was fined, and was ordered to complete 100 hours of community service work. He was sentenced to 180 days in jail, although all but four days of the jail time has been stayed.

Another count of indecent solicitation and a charge of possession of child pornography were dismissed as part of the negotiated plea.
