Patsy Roberta Burrus, 87, of Beecher City, Illinois, passed away on May 21, 2026, at Haven of St. Elmo in St. Elmo, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on November 17, 1938, to Fred and Magnolia Holman, Patsy lived a life centered on faith, family, music, traditions, and caring for the people she loved. She carried herself with quiet strength and a generous spirit, and she touched the lives of many through her kindness, hospitality, and devotion to those closest to her. Her presence brought comfort and warmth to every room she entered, and her life was a lasting example of love lived faithfully and well. On September 28, 1956, she married William “Bill” Edward Burrus, and together they shared 64 years of marriage before his passing on February 7, 2020. Their union was built on commitment, shared memories, and a deep devotion to family. Through the years, they created a home where love was steady, traditions were cherished, and children and grandchildren were always welcomed with open arms. Their life together became the foundation for generations of family memories that will be treasured always.
Patsy was a longtime member of Kaskaskia Church, where her faith remained an important part of her life. Along with raising her family, she worked at Fashion Lane in Effingham until it closed and later worked at Fedders until her retirement. She approached every responsibility with dedication and grace, and she was respected for her work ethic and dependable nature. Even as she balanced work and family, she made time for the people and traditions that meant the most to her. She was the heart of countless family gatherings over the years. Patsy loved Sunday suppers with a house full of family, listening to “the boys” play music, evenings spent around the table playing cards, and always having the bump board ready for the next game. Her kitchen was known for skillet biscuits, homemade noodles, lemon pie, and meals made with love, and nobody ever left her house hungry. For years, she lovingly sewed Halloween costumes for her grandchildren by hand, opened her home to others, and made everyone who walked through her door feel welcome. More than anything, Patsy loved her family deeply. She helped raise and care for generations of children and grandchildren over the years and created a home filled with warmth, laughter, conversation, music, and traditions that will never be forgotten.

She is survived by her four children, Bonnie and Jim Sphar of Beecher City, Mike and Becky Burrus of Beecher City, Marsha and Brian Smith of Sefton, and Mark and Gina Burrus of Beecher City. She also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, Crystal and Derek Finley, Matt and Jennifer Sphar, Justin and Vicki Short, Nick and Megan Burrus, Becky and Nick Sloan, Jason Himes and Angie Huntington, Jared and Jodi Sphar, Luke and Amy Burrus, Jake Burrus and Brittany, and Caleb and Nicci Burrus, along with 24 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Her family was her greatest joy, and she was deeply proud of each generation that followed her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Magnolia Holman; her husband, Bill, and her brothers, Leon and Bradley Holman. While her family mourns her passing, they take comfort in knowing she is reunited with those she loved and missed so dearly. Her family will forever remember the woman whose kitchen, table, and home became the heart of so many treasured memories. Patsy’s love, her traditions, and the many special moments she created will continue to live on through the family she cherished so deeply. Her legacy is one of devotion, hospitality, faith, and enduring love, and her memory will remain a blessing to all who knew her.

There will be a private family service. Friends and loved ones are welcome to attend the graveside service at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at Bob Doane Cemetery with Sid Hutchinson officiating. Memorials in Patsy’s honor may be made to Bob Doane Cemetery Fund and may be mailed to Lockart-Green Funeral Home, 302 W. Main St., Shelbyville, IL 62565.
