Effingham St. Anthony took a 1-0 opening inning lead and went on to blank Dieterich by an 8-0 count Thursday in high school baseball.

The Bulldogs finished with seven hits and scored in every inning but the second.

Curtis Tingley had a double and drove in two runs while Aiden Lauritzen added a double and an RBI. Ben McDonald and Charley Spour chipped in with a single and an RBI each. Freddie Jansen added an RBI.

Lauritzen picked up the pitching victory. He tossed all seven innings, giving up three hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out 10.

Dieterich was led by Dominic Ashley with two singles and Andrew Hall with a single.

At Dieterich

At Bethalto

Effingham easily dispatched Bethalto Civic Memorial 14-0 in Thursday action.

The Hearts jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning after Jude Traub homered to left field, scoring three runs and a wild pitch scored the fourth run.

A single by Brayden Tucker and a double by Westin Hayes helped the Hearts extend their early lead to 8-0 in the second.

Effingham added four more runs in the top of the third on two hits. Carter Braddy hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run and Max Flack homered to left field scoring three runs.

Braddy earned the win on the mound. He surrendered two hits and no runs over five innings, striking out four and walking none.

The Hearts finished with 13 hits led by Flack with a single, double and four RBI, Traub with a single, home run and three RBI, Tucker with two singles, a double and two RBI, Westin Hayes added a double and three RBI. Wyatt Hayes finished with a triple and Braddy added a single and an RBI.

Efingham also claimed the junior high victory, 6-3. The Hearts had 11 hits led by T. Raddatz with two singles, a double and an RBI, Elliott Braddy with two singles, a double and two RBI, Coen Westjohn with two singles and two RBI and Owen Schuette with a single and an RBI.

At Mattoon

Teutopolis finished with 15 hits and was aided by six Mattoon errors in an 18-2 victory in six innings Thursday.

The Wooden Shoes held a 5-1 opening inning lead and had another five-run inning in the fourth. They finished the contest with seven runs in the sixth.

Austin Borries banged out three singles, a double and drove in four runs while Nolan Schumacher had two singles, a double and also had four RBI. Teagan Pals added a single and double while Jason Kreke finished with a double and four RBI. Aidan Niemerg added a single and an RBI and Gavin Addis had an RBI.

Davin Worman tossed a four-hitter with two walks and nine strikeouts. Worman is now 6-1 on the season.

The Wooden Shoes improved to 24-8 overall and return to action today at Pleasant Plains against Father McGivney at 4 p.m.

At Toledo

Cumberland played host to St. Elmo/Brownstown and sent the Eagles home with an 11-1 loss in five innings Thursday.

The Pirates stepped out to a 4-1 opening inning lead and pushed that to 8-1 in the second. They finished with three runs in the fourth.

Cumberland had a 10-hit attack. Adyn Heuerman led the way for Cumberland with five RBI around a single and double. Lance Lock added a single and double while Cameron Strader had a double and an RBI. Hudson McElravy finished with two singles and an RBI. Reed Miller had a single and an RBI and Grady Jones added an RBI.

St. Elmo/Brownstown had three hits led by Logan Lach with a double and an RBI and Keelan Speagle and Lucas Powell with a single each. BSE dropped to 9-11 on the season.

McMechan was the winner on the mound going two innings, giving up one run on three hits, walking one and striking out four. Miller came on to go two innings, giving up no hits, , one walk and striking out one.

At Toledo

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City pulled out a 7-6 victory over Central A&M Thursday.

CAM held a 2-1 opening inning lead. The Bobcats scored four runs in the second for a 5-2 lead. CAM then tied in the fourth with three runs.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City moved ahead 6-5 in the fifth. Once again CAM tied the score at 6-6. But the Bobcats persevered with a run in the bottom of the sixth for the victory.

Clive Schlanser led the Bobcats with a single, double and two RBI while Cayden Ondes had a single and double. Daithyn Arnold finished with two singles and an RBI, Isaac Miller two singles and Isaac Wells two RBI.

At Beecher City

Altamont blanked Okaw Valley by a 6-0 count Thursday.

The Indians moved into a 3-0 lead in the second then tacked on two in the third and finished with one in the sixth.

Altamont’s Carson Milleville held Okaw Valley to three hits while striking out 11. He did not allow a walk.

Will Reardon had two singles for the winners while Cooper McManaway added a single and two RBI. Kade Milleville also had two RBI. Kaiden Wolff and Blake Berg finished with an RBI each.

At Altamont

Neoga took the early lead but Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond came back to finish with a 10-4 victory.

The Indians led 2-0 after the first inning and 4-1 in the top of the third. But ALAH tallied five in the bottom of the third and four in the fifth.

Neoga had eight hits but committed four errors. Grady Haarman led the way with a single, double and two RBI while Garrett Ballinger chipped in with a double. Mason Platz added a single and an RBI.

At Arthur

The Eagles finished with five hits while St. Joseph-Ogden had eight.

David Ferguson had a single and an RBI while Quincy Fulton, Maddox Horner, Gavin Meinhart and Reed Tharp added a single each.

Newton pitchers gave up nine walks in the contest while the Eagles committed three errors.
