Effingham and Teutopolis stood tied at 1-1 in the opening inning of a high school softball contest Tuesday.
That lasted through the first three innings before Effingham took advantage, moving ahead 3-1.
But, here came Teutopolis, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie the score at 3-3. No scoring through the sixth, but the Hearts came through once again, this time in the top of the seventh, getting three runs home for the 6-3 victory.
EHS was on a hitting run, nailing 12 in the contest. Keagyn Koenig had two doubles while Maci Hayes added a double. Cora Hartmann and Olivia Koester finished with three singles each while Molly Maxedon added two singles. Garnering two RBI each were Ryley Engel and Natalie Armstrong.
Layla McBride went seven innings, giving up three runs on eight hits. She did not allow a walk and struck out three.
The Wooden Shoes were led by Malea Helmink with three singles and three RBI and Jersey Gaddis with a single and double.
At Teutopolis

At Toledo
This was a pitcher’s game as Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg and Cumberland finished with a total of five hits between the two schools.
Cumberland had three hits, two singles by Jude Miller and a single and an RBI by Lauren Schnepper. Jade Carr added an RBI.
The Hatchets had two hits, both by Kinsley Dunaway with a triple, home run and an RBI. Kalia Friese added an RBI.
Mia Holsapple tossed a two-hitter with no walks and two strikeouts for the win. The Pirates finished as the National Trail Conference champions with a 9-0 record and improved to 18-11 overall. They return to sctionThursday hosting Tuscola.
Kendra Hayes suffered the loss, going six innings, allowing three runs on three hits, one walk and one strikeout.

At Mulberry Grove
Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City struck early and quickly in a 17-7 victory over Mulberry Grove Tuesday.
The Bobcats opened with three runs in the first inning then tacked on five more in the fifth. They scored three in the fourth, one in the fifth and ended the game by the 10-run rule in the sixth with five more.
Allison Shields led in hitting with four hits and had two stolen bases. Harper Lilly had two hits and two stolen bases. Ryleigh Sarver had a hit, two RBI and three stolen bases. Brylie Prater, Jayla Arnett and Carissa Wakefield finished with two hits and an RBI each. Wakefield had two stolen bases. Madison Dover and Natalie Tucker had two RBI each.
Prater was the winning pitcher.

Charleston played host to Altamont and claimed a 14-5 victory Tuesday.
Altamont held a 2-1 lead in the top of the second but Charleston came back in the bottom of the frame, scoring seven runs and never looked back.
The Trojans finished with 13 hits but committed six errors.
Altamont had six hits led by Laila Hankins with a single, double and two RBI, Kennedi Schultz and Cecilia Pearcy with a double and an RBI each.

Marshall handed Dieterich a 16-0 loss in four innings Tuesday.
The Lions edged out to a 1-0 opening inning lead then broke the game wide open with a 15-run third inning.
Marshall finished with 14 hits while holding Dieterich to two.
The Maroons’ Lydia Wohltman and Callie Faller had a single each.
Marshall’s Avery Cornwell tossed a two-hitter with no walks while striking out three.
McKenzie Davis had a single, home run and five RBI while Lynn Welborn added a single, double and two RBI. Lauren English finished with three singles and an RBI.

The Warriors stepped out to a 4-0 opening inning lead and wrapped another four-run inning in the third around six in the second.
Casey-Westfield finished with 14 hits and was aided by six Newton errors.
The Eagles had 13 hits led by Paige Wagner with a single, double, home run and three RBI, Jorjia Reich with a home run and two RBI, Jacee Dhom with a home run and two RBI, Audria Reich with two three singles and Lexie Ghast with two singles and an RBI.

North Clay handed Red Hill (Bridgeport) a 3-2 loss in action Tuesday.
