Effingham had a 13-hit attack and handed Meridian a 9-6 loss in high school softball Tuesday.
The Hearts trailed Meridian by a 3-2 opening inning. But EHS came back with three runs in the third to move ahead 4-3 then tacked on single runs in the fourth and fifth and two more in the seventh.
EHS had 13 hits that included four home runs. Natalie Armstrong led the way with two home runs and four RBI. Maci Hayes chipped in with two singles, a home run and an RBI. Keagyn Koenig added a single, home run and three RBI. Gieah Schlanser and Madilyn Summers finished with a double each. Cora Hartmann and Sydney Cunningham had two singles each.
Armstrong started on the mound, going six innings, giving up six runs on nine hits and six walks for the win. Koenig came on to toss the final inning, giving up two hits.

Altamont moved into a 2-0 lead in the second inning and went on for a 3-1 victory over Neoga Tuesday.
Altamont ended with seven hits as Sophia Long had a single, triple and an RBI, Avery Fleeharty two singles and Laila Hankins a single and an RBI.
Long went all seven innings on the mound, giving up one run, five hits, two walks while striking out 12.
Neoga’s Emily Frankie had a double while Hannah Propst had a single and an RBI.

Dieterich broke loose from Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City to tally a 17-2 victory Tuesday.
The Maroons led 1-0 after two innings. CHBC finished with five hits, all singles by Carissa Wakefield, Ryleigh Sarver, Harper Lilly and Allison Shields.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg was a 12-1 winner over North Clay as two National Trail Conference teams met.
North Clay dropped to 0-7 in the conference, 3-13 overall and is back in action today against Brownstown/St. Elmo.

At St. Anthony
Tolono Unity blanked Effingham St. Anthony by the 10-0 count in five innings Tuesday.
The Rockets moved into a 5-0 opening inning lead and added on three more in the second. Unity then finished out with single runs in the fourth and fifth.
The Bulldogs’ two hits were singles by Lilly Gannaway and Emeline Wines

Marshall’s Kyla Gustafson held Teutopolis in check by tossing a one-hitter. She gave up only one walk while striking out 16 batters.
Meanwhile, the Lions finished with eight hits, four of those for extra bases. Lauren English had two triples while Lynn Welborn had a single, home run and an RBI. McKenzie Davis ended with two singles and an RBI and Ella Mattas a double
The Wooden Shoes’ lone hit was a single by Chloe Hoene.
