Visit Effingham is honoring National Travel and Tourism Week, May 3 – 9, by highlighting the travel industry’s essential role in driving economic growth, creating jobs and strengthening the
region’s competitiveness.

In 2026, the theme “Postmarked: Essential” highlights a simple truth: travel is not optional – it is fundamental to our economy, workforce and way of life. Every trip taken, every visitor welcomed and every experience created leaves a mark on communities across the country. Travel drives opportunity, fuels growth and keeps us all connected. As the nation looks ahead to major milestones, including its 250th anniversary, NTTW serves as an opportunity to recognize the industry that drives travel to and across America – and the communities it supports.

Here in Effingham, the impact is clear. In 2024, the travel industry generated more than $243 million in visitor spending, while supporting over 1,600 local jobs and producing more than $7.4
million in local tax revenue.

Visit Effingham is celebrating the power of travel by inviting both visitors and residents to take part in National Travel and Tourism Week. Follow along on social media to celebrate the
adventure found right here in our own backyard.

You’re invited to stop by the Effingham Tourism Office at 201 E. Jefferson Avenue May 4 – 8 to join the festivities. Pick up a free Visit Effingham cookie and an “adventure pack,” complete with a tote bag, tourism information and fun travel souvenirs (while supplies last). Be sure to enter for a chance to win tickets for a family of five to Raging Rivers Waterpark in Grafton.

“Travel connects us in meaningful ways and supports communities far beyond the destination,” says Executive Director Jodi Thoele. “National Travel and Tourism Week is a chance to celebrate
those connections and encourage people to get out and explore… Whether they’re traveling across the country or enjoying experiences right here in Effingham.”
