 Cumberland Hands Neoga Loss, WSS, N. Clay Win, SEB Loses In High School Softball

NEOGA — Cumberland High School improved its National Trail Conference record to 6-0 with a 6-1 softball victory over Neoga Wednesday.

The Pirates edged out to a 1-0 opening inning lead then tacked on single runs in the second, fourth and sixth wrapped around two runs in the third.

Mia Holsapple led the way in hitting with two singles, a double and two RBI while Jude Miller added three singles. Lauren Schnepper added a double and drove in a run. Ashton Tolen finished with a single and an RBI.

Holsapple went the seven innings on the mound. She gave up one run on five hits, one walk and struck out two.

Neoga was led by Josalyn Brandenburg with a double and Hannah Propst with a single and an RBI.

The Indians committed four errors.

Cumberland improved to 13-7 overall and will be back in action today hosting Teutopolis.

At Charleston

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg ran out to a 5-0 first inning lead and went on to blank Charleston by an 11-0 count in five innings Wednesday.

Kendra Hayes held the Trojans to only one hit. She struck out four and gave up two walks.

Meanwhile, the Hatchets’ bats were alive with 12 hits. Claire Holland had a single, two doubles and drove in two runs while Kalia Friese had a single, double and two RBI. Clarissa Johnson added a double and two RBI. Kinsley Dunaway finished with two singles. Hayes had a triple and Mya Friese a double. Arora Rincker hit a single and had an RBI and Cameron Carey an RBI.

At Louisville

North Clay handed Cisne a 12-2 loss in a game Wednesday.

The Cardinals improved to 3-11 on the season. They return to action today against Odin at 4:30 p.m.

 

At Centralia

Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran edged St. Elmo/Brownstown, 4-3 Wednesday.

CORL jumped out to a 3-0 opening inning lead. St. Elmo/Brownstown tied the score in the top of the seventh. But CORL came back with the winning run in the bottom of the frame.

St. Elmo/Brownstown outhit the Stallions by a 10-3 count. Kadence Speagle finished with four singles. Macey Sapp had a single and two RBI. Six other players had a single each.

Speagle also was the winning pitcher. She went the distance, striking out 11. She gave up four runs on three hits.
