 Teutopolis Hands Effingham 7-1 Loss In High School Baseball

Teutopolis decided this win in the opening inning as the Wooden Shoes handed Effingham a 7-1 high school baseball loss Monday in a game heard on KJ Country 102.3.

The Wooden Shoes pushed ahead 3-0 in the first inning. Leadoff hitter Davin Worman singled to open the frame. He was sacrificed over by Aiden Niemerg. Jason Kreke and Austin Borries then followed with back-to-back singles. Nolen Schumacher hit a sacrifice that produced an RBI.

There were two errors in the inning by the Hearts.

Effingham came right back in the bottom of the frame to put two runners on as Andrew Wagoner singled and Jude Traub reached on an error. But the two were left stranded.

T-town put two runners on in the second but left them standing on base.

Effingham went up and down in order in the third and fourth.

The Wooden Shoes got another run across the plate in the fourth for a 4-0 lead. With one out, Andy Lustig drew a walk, one of three he would earn, and took second on a wild pitch. An error on a ball hit by Worman got the runner home.

EHS had a runner on in the fifth on an error but left him stranded with a ground out and two strikeouts.

T-town had two runners on base in the fifth but they were left stranded. But the Shoes came back to score three more runs in the sixth. Lustig reached base on an error. With one out, Aiden Niemerg drew a walk and took second on another error. With two outs, Austin Borires singled home a run and Nolen Schumacher followed with a single that scored two more runs.

Carter Braddy singled for the Hearts in the sixth with one out but he was left on base.

EHS finally tallied a run in the seventh as Max Flack and Wyatt Hayes drew back-to-back walks. Flack eventually scored on a wild pitch but Wyatt Hayes was left stranded along with Westin Hayes who had drawn a walk.

Addis earned the win on the mound, going five innings. He struck out 10, walked only two and gave up two hits.

Both teams are back in action today, weather permitting. Teutopolis hosts Olney while Effingham also will be home to Charleston.
