Effingham St. Anthony picked up a 7-2 victory over North Clay/Clay City in high school softball competition Thursday.
The Bulldogs moved into a 2-0 lead in the second inning, then tacked on a single run in the third, three in the fourth and one in the sixth.
Julia Schultz and Sadie Vineyard led the offensive attack for the Bulldogs. Schultz had a single, double and three RBI while Vineyard finished with two singles and three RBI. Lilly Gannaway added three singles. Nancy Ruholl had a triple and Kelli Honselman a double. Jackie Vonderheide added an RBI.
North Clay/Clay City finished with three hits, all singles. Lauryn Snell had a hit and drove in two runs while Faith Jones and Addyson Sullens had a hit each.
Honselman went four innings for the Bulldogs, giving up only one hit, not walking a batter and striking out five. Ruholl came on to toss the final three innings, giving up two runs on two hits, one walk and striking out six.

At Cowden
Effingham High School didn’t waste any time. The Hearts ran out to an 8-0 lead on Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and ended this game in the fourth inning by a 19-2 tally.
The Hearts had their bats swinging, finishing with 19 hits that included six home runs.
Keagyn Koenig had a single and two home runs with three RBI while Giah Schlanser finished with a single and two solo home runs for two RBI. Olivia Koester hit a home run and had two RBI
Cora Hartmann added two singles, a double and an RBI while Maci Hayes finished with a home run and four RBI and Natalie Armstrong had two singles and an RBI. Sydney Cunningham added two singles and two RBI and Aubrey Poe a single and an RBI. Molly Maxedon finished with two singles.
Poe went the four innings on the mound, giving up six runs on two hits, no walks and striking out one.
Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City was led by Ryleigh Sarver with a single, home run and two RBI and Brylie Prater with two singles.

Teutopolis broke a 1-1 third inning tie with a four-run fourth and went on for a 14-4 victory over Charleston Thursday.
The Wooden Shoes finished the game with 16 hits that included six extra base hits.
Kylie Borries led the way with a home run and two RBI while Olivia Wermert had three singles and a double. Alyssa Tipton put together two singles, a double and two RBI and Malea Helmink had a single, double and an RBI. Kera Hartke added three singles and two RBI.
Doubles came off the bats of Lauren Shue and Brooke Thoele. Shue had two RBI and Thoele one. Jersey Gaddis had two RBI and Chloe Hoene a single and an RBI.
Meanwhile, Gaddis gave up four runs on seven hits, five walks and struck out six for the mound victory.

Newton and Dieterich were tied at 2-2 after the third inning Thursday.
Newton then came back to score single runs in the fifth and sixth for the 4-2 victory.
The Eagles finished with eight hits led by Pagie Wagner with two singles, a double and an RBI, Jorjia Reich with a single and triple and Izzy Meinhart with a double and an RBI. Claire Probst added an RBI.
Emma Inyart came on in the fourth inning to pick up the pitching victory. She allowed two hits, one walk and struck out three.
Dieterich was led by Allison Boergen with a double and an RBI and Addi Huber with a single and an RBI.

St. Elmo/Brownstown edged Odin/Patoka/Sandoval by a 9-8 count Thursday.
SEB moved into a 4-3 opening inning lead, tacked on another run in the second and led 7-3 in the top of the third.
OPS came back with two runs in the bottom of the third to pull within 7-5. Both teams then scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings as St. Elmo/Brownstown led 9-7.
OPS then mounted a comeback in the bottom of the seventh, only to fall a run short.
SEB finished with 12 hits. Izzy Orr had three singles and two RBI while Daisy Chandler added two singles and an RBI and Kadence Speagle and Dayana Haslett had two singles each. Brooklyn Landrus chipped in with a single and an RBI and Macy Sapp and Cami Haslett had an RBI each.
Speagle went the entire seven innings on the mound, giving up eight runs on eight hits, four walks and striking out four.

Despite some tough personnel losses, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg bounced Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond by a 16-3 score in five innings Thursday.
The Hatchets edged out to a 3-2 opening inning lead then put the game away with a seven-run second, a single run in the third and five in the fourth.
Windsor/Stew-Stras had 10 hits led by Mya Friese with a single, double and three RBI. Kalia Friese added a single and two RBI while Maddie Clark, Kierra Mueller, Shae Conder and Arora Rincker had a single and an RBI each.
Grace Mast finished with two singles and Clarissa Johnson had two RBI and Claire Holland one RBI.
K. Friese went the five innings on the mound. She gave up three runs on seven hits, did not walk a batter and struck out eight.
The Hatchets are playing without Kinsley Dunaway who had emergency surgery Sunday and Zaida Wacher who was injured in Tuesday night’s game.

Greenville blanked Altamont by a 10-0 count in five innings Thursday.
Greenville led 2-0 after the first inning and 5-0 after the second. The team tallied four more runs in the fourth and ended the game with a run in the fifth.
Altamont finished with two hits, both off the bat of Ella Nelson with two singles.
The Indians ended with four errors. Greenville’s A. Potthast gave up only two hits and struck out seven.
