Effingham St. Anthony held off Richland County, Olney for a 7-5 high school baseball victory Monday.
St. Anthony and Richland County played to a 2-2 opening inning tie. They went through four innings without scoring before Richland County moved ahead with a run in the top of the sixth.
But the Bulldogs came roaring back with five runs in the bottom of the sixth to move ahead 7-3.
Richland County rallied with two runs in the seventh only to fall short.
St. Anthony finished with six hits led by Will Bierman with a double and Henry Brent and Xander Beals with a single and an RBI each.
The Bulldogs committed seven errors in the contest.
Freddie Jansen came on in the fifth to toss two innings, allowing one run on three hits, two walks and striking out one for the win on the mound.
Richland County finished with five hits and committed five errors.
In the junior varsity game, St. Anthony was a 12-7 winner.
The Bulldogs moved into a 7-3 opening inning lead. They finished with nine hits led by Curtis Tingley with two singles, a double and two RBI while Mason Karolewicz had a single, double and one RBI. Blake Verdeyen and Mason Storm had a single and an RBI each.
Tingley picked up the win on the mound, going an inning, giving up three runs on two hits and two walks.

At Toledo
Teutopolis came calling on Cumberland and handed the Pirates a 12-1 loss in five innings via the 10-run rule Monday.
The Wooden Shoes held a 2-0 opening inning lead. Cumberland pulled within 2-1 in the second. But the Shoes took control from that point on, scoring two in the third seven in the fourth and ending the game with one in the fifth.
Jason Kreke had a double, home run and two RBI for the Shoes. Austin Borries added three singles and drove in two runs while Davin Worman and Michael Habing had a double each. T-town improved to 2-1 on the season.
Caleb Deters went the five innings on the mound, giving up one run on four hits, no walks and struck out five.
Cumberland was led by Adyn Heuerman with a single and a solo home run. Grady Jones and Lance Lock had the other two hits, singles. The Pirates dropped to 1-3.

At Newton
Newton had fewer hits than Effingham but came out a 4-3 winner Monday.
Effingham was first to get on the board when Brayden Tucker singled, scoring a run.
But Newton came back with two runs to move ahead in the bottom of the first thanks to singles by Drake Wolf and Reed Tharp.
Jude Traub flew out, which helped the Hearts tie the game at 2-2 in the top of the second.
But in the bottom of the fifth, Newton broke the tie when David Ferguson grounded out, scoring a run. A wild pitch followed and Newton held a 4-2 lead.
Traub hit a solo home run to centerfield in the top of the seventh but that’s all the closer the Hearts could come. Traub finished with the home run, a single and the RBI. Tucker finished with a single, double and an RBI and Carter Braddy with two singles.
Carson Barthelme earned the win for the Eagles. He came on in the fourth, giving up one hit and striking out one.
Quincy Fulton had a double for the Eagles while David Ferguson had an RBI.
Effingham will host Marshall today.

At Lebanon
Brownstown/St. Elmo held off Lebanon in the last inning to claim a 7-5 victory Monday.
BSE moved into a 2-0 opening inning lead. Lebanon came back to take a 3-2 lead in the third. The next two innings were scoreless before BSE broke loose with four runs in the top of the sixth and tacked on a final run in the seventh.
Lebanon made a comeback attempt with two runs in the bottom of the seventh but fell short.
Zayden Gillespie picked up the pitching victory. He went five innings, allowing three runs, one earned, five hits, one walk while striking out seven.
Jayce Gillespie led the way in hitting with a double, triple and two RBI. Logan Lach added two singles and an RBI while Gillespie had two singles. Lucas Powell had a single and two RBI and Keelan Speagle an RBI.
Brownstown/St. Elmo is now 2-0 on the season and is back in action today against North Clay.

At Dieterich
Shelbyville held off a final inning challenge by Dieterich to capture a 7-5 victory Monday.
The Rams moved into a 1-0 first inning lead but Dieterich tied the score in the second. Shelbyville scored two runs in the third and fourth innings and one in the fifth to lead 6-1. Dieterich came back with a run in the bottom of the sixth and almost pulled it out with three runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Dieterich had eight hits but committed five errors. Dom Ashley and Carson Baxter led in hitting for the Maroons with two singles and an RBI each. Andrew Hall added a single and two RBI while Justin Boerngen had a single and an RBI.

Pana moved into a 1-0 opening inning lead and held that until the fourth. That’s when the Panthers broke loose against Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City with 10 runs and finished with a 12-2 victory.
CHBC had four hits in the game but committed five errors.
Ben Askins had a single and an RBI for the Bobcats while Clive Schlanser, Charlie Hardimon and Cayden Ondes finished with a single each.
