 St. Anthony, Teutopolis, Newton, Dieterich Nab Softball Wins; Altamont, Cumberland Fall

Effingham St. Anthony finished with 13 hits in blanking Neoga by a 19-0 tally in five innings of high school softball Monday.

The Bulldogs moved into a 3-0 opening inning lead then tacked on three more in the second, five in the third and finished the game with eight in the fifth.

Jackie Vonderheide led the way for the Bulldogs with a single, double and three RBI. Kelli Honselman added a single, double and two RBI while Lilly Gannaway had a single and double.

Julia Schultz and Emeline Wines finished with two singles and an RBI each while Avery Henning had a single and two RBI and Mallory Litz and Lily Hardiek had a single and an RBI each. Livia Jansen added an RBI.

Nancy Ruholl tossed three innings for the pitching win. She gave up one hit and walked three. Kelli Honselman finished the final two innings, giving up one hit while striking out two.

Neoga was led by Taylor Campbell and Lillian Denson with a single each.

At Salem

Teutopolis High School edged out to a 3-1 opening inning lead on Salem in softball action Monday and then went on to pound the Wildcats to the tune of 16-1 in three innings.

The Wooden Shoes banged out 19 hits in the game. Chloe Hoene finished with a single, home run and four RBI while Kylie Borries had a single, home run and two RBI. Malia Helmink provided a single, double and three RBI.

Ten players finished with 19 hits in the contest for the Shoes. Kera Hartke had three singles and drove in a run while Mallory Bloemer had two singles and two RBI. Olivia Wermert added two singles and an RBI. Alyssa Tipton and Lauren Shue finished with two singles each. Clara Mette had a single and two RBI and Jersey Gaddis a single and an RBI.

Tipton went the three innings on the mound, giving up one run, one hit, five walks and striking out five.

At Arthur

Newton High School banged out 14 hits and finished with a 25-3 victory over Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hamond Monday.

The Eagles ran out to a 10-3 opening inning lead and finished the game in the fourth inning.

Newton was led by Claire Probst with a single, double, home run and six RBI while Jorjia Reich added a single, double and three RBI. Paige Wagner finished with two singles and two RBI and Izzy Meinhart a double and an RBI. Audrie Reich, Lexie Ghast and Gabby Flowers had a single and two RBI each. Emma Inyart and Kahlyn McGrath finished with a single and an RBI each.

Ghast picked up the pitching victory. She went two innings, giving up three runs on three hits, no walks and striking out three. Inyart came in to finish the second two innings, giving up one hit, one walk and striking out one.

Fairfield moved into a 3-0 opening inning lead and never looked back, blanking Altamont 17-0 in six innings Monday.

Fairfield had only six hits but was aided by seven Altamont errors and by drawing nine walks.

Altamont finished with two hits, singles by Ella Nelson and Haley Arend.

Dieterich edged out to a 1-0 lead on St. Elmo/Brownstown and added on to that in three more innings for a 12-4 victory.

The Movin’ Maroons had a 14-hit attack. Aliza Garner had three singles and three RBI while Claire Faller added three singles. Callie Faller had a single, double and an RBI while Lexie Funneman chipped in with two singles. Allison Boerngen finished with a single and an RBI, Lexie Funneman with two singles and Lydia Wohltman an RBI.

St. Elmo/Brownstown had four hits led by Izzy Orr with two singles and an RBI and Dayana Haslett with two singles. Macey Sapp added an RBI

Boerngen went the distance, giving up four runs on four hits, one walk while striking out 10.

Robinson played host to Cumberland and blanked the Pirates by a 10-0 count.

Jade Carr had a single for the Pirates. Carr and Kinley McMechan had a stolen base each.

Cumberland is now 3-1 on the season and is back in action today hosting Charleston.
