The Effingham Athletic Department runs an Athlete of the Month program every month. Athletes are nominated by coaches based upon the following criteria: Stats, Accomplishments, Character, Coachability, Leadership and Sportsmanship.

February 2026 Winners

Masey Mifflin. Sr. – Competitive Cheer

“Masey has grown tremendously as an athlete this past season. This student athlete has taken the time outside of practice to work on her tumbling (which benefits her and the team). Another item, Masey has been awarded the MVP award at one of our stunting camps this past season as well. When it comes to Masey’s charactership she is always providing for her team. Being open-minded to trying new aspects whether that’s a tumbling pass, a stunt position, or a dance suggestion: Masey will try it without any conflict of interest (even if maybe it is not her spot or what she is used to). This student-athlete is very outgoing as well as being there for her team. Masey is constantly lifting her teammates if they are down or if she notices they’re just having an off practice. Masey is one of our seniors on the team who has gone above and beyond to make everyone on the team feel comfortable and welcomed.” — Coach Hailey Denton

Jeremiah Lorton, Sr. – Wrestling

“Jeremiah finished his high school season by qualifying for the state wrestling tournament on February 19-21. At the state tournament he went 2-2 finishing in the top 8, becoming the first in EHS history to do so. During his senior season he compiled a 40-10 record leading the team in wins and also tied for first in takedowns. He was a captain on the team this year and was someone the wrestlers looked up to the last couple years. One thing that stuck out to me at the state tournament was his compassion for his opponents after ending their seasons.” — Coach Jeremy Patnaude
