 Illinois Cruises Past Oregon In Men’s Basketball, 80-54

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. –No. 11 Illinois (23-7, 14-5) used a dominant first half to cruise by Oregon (11-19, 4-15), 80-54, in front of a Senior Night sellout crowd at the State Farm Center. The win finishes off Illinois’ season at home with a record of 14-3.

Andrej Stojakovic (21 points) and David Mirkovic (19) teamed up to put 40 points on the board. Stojakovic turned in his second double-double of the season with a game-high 12 rebounds.

Oregon won the tip and built a 6-0 lead before Mirkovic knocked down a three to get Illinois on the board three minutes into the game. After missing their first five shot attempts of the night, the Illini heated up to take their first lead, 11-9, at 13:43 when Zvonimir Ivisic converted a three-point play after being fouled on a layup.

Illinois exploded with a monstrous 24-2 run over a seven-minute span. The Illini locked up the Ducks on defense, holding them to 1-for-16 shooting over that stretch while the Orange and Blue shot 11-for-17, to build a 27-11 lead at the 8:30 mark before pushing the lead to 20 poins, 41-21, at halftime.

While Oregon opened the second half with a 16-7 stretch to narrow their deficit to 50-37, Illinois was quick to put its foot on the gas. The Illini went on their second huge run of the day, going 15-0 over three-and-a-half minutes, including seven straight points from Stojakovic, to take a 65-37 lead.

Illinois held Oregon without a field goal for 7:38 late in the second half, going on a 23-6 run over that span. The Illini closed out the night with a flurry of five points from senior AJ Redd, a career-high mark.

Next up, closes the regular season on Sunday at Maryland. Tipoff between the Fighting Illini and Terrapins is set for 2 p.m. CT (3 p.m. ET) on FOX.
