Thomas James Dunn, affectionately known as Tom to his friends and loved ones, left this world peacefully at his home in Ramsey, Illinois, on February 28, 2026.
Tom was born on September 20, 1953, in Hollywood, California, the son of Herbert William and Yvonne Francis (Schoenhoff) Dunn. A 1971 graduate of Effingham High School, Tom carried the spirit of his youth throughout his life, embracing every moment with enthusiasm and a sense of adventure. His journey led him to the love of his life, Carol Foster, whom he married on May 21, 2011. Carol remained his devoted partner, sharing in both his dreams and his daily life until his last day. Tom was a man of many interests, but perhaps none so defining as his career as the owner and operator of the Time Machine, a specialty shop where he pursued his passion for vintage railroad pocket watches. Tom’s love for the past didn’t stop at watches; he was also an avid collector and dealer of various vintage items, finding joy in the stories and history each piece carried. His fascination with bygone eras was complemented by a love for classic cars and motorcycles, which he not only collected but also enjoyed riding and restoring. This love affair with all things vintage was more than a hobby; it was a way of life that Tom embraced wholeheartedly. Beyond his professional and personal interests, Tom was a man who cherished connections with others. He relished the opportunity to visit with people, often catching up over a meal, and he was known for his warm presence and the genuine interest he took in the lives of those around him.
Tom’s legacy is carried on by his loving family, including his wife, Carol of Ramsey; his daughter, Heather (Shannon) Brown of Ramsey; his son, Will (Ariel) Wiles of Pontiac; his adored grandchildren, Kaley Haupt, Kaitlin Brown, and Kayden Wood; and his great-granddaughter, Henley. He also leaves behind his sisters, Eileen (Mark) Ritchey of Littleton, Colorado, and Rebecca (Mark) Bradley of Edwardsville, as well as five cherished nephews.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Yvonne, who instilled in him the values of hard work, integrity, and the importance of family.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Beecher City. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
