 Altamont Advances, St. Elmo/ Brownstown Season Ends at Class 1A Boys Regional

Altamont High School handily won its opener in its own Class 1A boys basketball regional Monday evening.

The Indians put together some big scoring quarters and claimed a 78-33 victory over Sandoval.

Altamont edged out to a 19-13 opening quarter lead as Kade Milleville connected on two three-pointers and Jacob Johnson hit three regular baskets and a free throw for seven.

The second period saw the Indians push their lead to 39-20 at halftime. K. Milleville added on to his nine-point total with six more while Parker Bell got into the scoring action with a three-pointer and two regular baskets for seven. Cooper Pals hit his second three-pointer of the contest.

Altamont came out after halftime and went on a 27-7 tear. Cooper McManaway, who had scored two baskets in the first half, went to work with a 13-point run. He hit four baskets, one from beyond the arc, and was four of five at the line.

Three players hit double figures for the Indians. McManaway led with 17 on six field goals, one a three-pointer, and four of five at the line. K. Milleville added 14 while Bell finished with 11. Cooper Pals and Jacob Johnson were on the verge of double digits with nine points each.

Altamont connected on eight three-pointers led by Cooper Pals, Chase Pals and K. Milleville with two each.

Sandoval had one player in double figures, Jaxon Dykstra with 15.

In the Game 2, St. Elmo/Brownstown saw its season come to a close with a 55-49 loss to Wayne City.

Wayne City moved into a 12-5 opening quarter lead. St. Elmo/Brownstown came back with a 17-16 second period run to trail 28-22 at halftime.

The Eagles continued on with an 18-14 third period to pull within 42-40. But in the final period, Wayne City put it together with a 13-9 score and ended St. Elmo/Brownstown’s hopes of a victory.

Jayden Hughett and Benji Lowe scored 13 points each for Coach Greg Feezel, who reached his 300th victory as a coach this season.

Lowe led in rebounds with eight and blocks with three. He had one steal. Dodge Willms had six assists and one steal. Ryan Powell finished with one steal.

In the Game 1, Bluford (Webber Township) downed Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran 76-24 and in Game 4, Edwards County (Albion) defeated Cisne, 63-37.

Regional action continues Wednesday as Webber Township faces Wayne City at 6 p.m. followed by Altamont taking on Edwards County (Albion) at 7:30. The winners will then advance to the championship game Friday at 7 p.m.
