MOWEAQUA — Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City trailed Moweaqua Central A&M in girls high school basketball competition Monday evening after the first half by a 21-16 edge.
The Bobcats then began mounting a rally in the third quarter with a 15-13 run as Carissa Wakefield put in three baskets for six points while Lena Bowlin added five points. They still trailed Central A&M by three going into the final quarter.
But CHBC continued on with its run, outscoring Central A&M 13-6 to pull out the 44-40 victory.
In that final period, Bowlin connected for six points while Ethel Stuckemeyer added four and Ryleigh Sarver put in three.
Bowlin hit double digits with 17 points on eight field goals and a free throw. Stuckemeyer finished with 12 and Wakefield added eight.
The Bobcats improved to 6-19 on the season and return to action today against the Pana Panthers.

At Teutopolis
Teutopolis played host to Neoga and put together a 77-25 victory Monday evening.
The Wooden Shoes ran out to a 26-10 opening quarter lead and led 46-13 at halftime.
Sophia Martin led T-town with four field goals, two of those three-pointers and one of two at the line for 11. Kelsey Niemerg and Allie Ruholl scored 10 points each. Ruholl hit eight field goals and was two of two at the line while Niemerg put in five baskets.
In even scoring, the Shoes had three players with eight points each, Jersey Gaddis, Eva Mette and Anna Probst. Probst led the team in rebounds with four. Eva Mette and Allie Ruholl had three steals each. Kaelyn Ordner had one assist.
Neoga was led by Lola Hartke with eight points on three field goals, two of those three-pointers.
The Indians fall to 10-17 on the season and plays host to Arcola at Lake Land College today.

At Newton
Newton improved to 18-10 on the season with a 70-43 victory over Oblong/Palestine/Hutsonville Monday evening.
The two teams were tied at 14-14 after the first quarter. Newton then broke loose with a 24-5 run to lead 38-19 at halftime.
Four players finished in double figures for the Eagles. Alani Bergbower led the way with eight field goals, two from three-point range, and one free throw for 19. Izzy Meinhart added 16 while Allie Hermann and Grace Schumacher tallied 11 each.
Claire Probst led in rebounds with 10. Bergbower had six assists. Meinhart led in steals with four.
Newton will travel to Marshall Wednesday for a makeup conference game.
The Eagles also claimed the junior varsity victory, 52-13. Layla Kuhl led in scoring with 11 points while Brooke Gentry and Ava Duncan added 10 each. The JV is 8-8 on the season.

At Shelbyville
Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg traveled to Shelbyville and the host squad edged the Hatchets 47-46 Monday evening.
Shelbyville stepped out to a 13-6 opening quarter lead and led 23-19 at halftime.
The Hatchets came back with a 13-10 third quarter as Kendra Hayes hit a three-pointer, a regular basket and was three of four at the line. That pulled WSS within 33-32 going into the final quarter.
But the Hatchets couldn’t make up the one-point lead by Shelbyville as both teams scored 14 points each.
Hayes finished with 20 points for WSS with five field goals, three from beyond the arc, and seven of 10 at the line.

Father McGivney handed Altamont a 51-14 loss in Monday evening play.
Father McGivney ran out to a 20-3 opening quarter lead and led 31-12 at halftime. Altamont did not score in the third quarter and Father McGivney led 45-12 going into the final quarter.
Altamont was led by Avery Aldrich with eight points on two field goals and four free throws. The Indians drop to 10-14 and return to play Saturday against Olney.
Father McGivney won the junior varsity game, 49-18.
