Gary G. Thompson, a cherished son, devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather, passed away peacefully at home on February 3, 2026. He was 77.

Born on July 2, 1948, to James and Helen (MacDonald) Thompson, Gary’s life was a testament to the values of family, service, and community that were instilled in him from a young age. A 1966 graduate of Windsor High School, Gary’s commitment to his country was evident early on. After graduation, he honorably served in Germany for 18 months with the United States Army, a period that would shape much of his character and dedication to duty. Throughout his life, Gary remained a proud veteran and a supportive member of the Windsor Methodist Church, where he found spiritual solace and camaraderie. On July 26, 1997, Gary married Vickie Brown Cole, and together they enjoyed 25 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and mutual respect. Vickie’s passing on January 9, 2023, was a profound loss for Gary, yet he continued to carry her memory in his heart. Gary’s professional life was marked by his role as the Maintenance Director at the Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home in Mattoon.

Gary’s legacy is carried on by his children, Lisa Nichols of Dallas, Texas, Cary (Karyn) Cole of Windsor, Stacy Cole of Windsor, and Jennifer (Troy) Coleman of Findlay. His ten grandchildren, Austin, AJ, Ivy, Hannah, Hayden, Andy, Carson, Taylor, Camden, and Regan, along with his 15 great-grandchildren, will miss his stories, his wisdom, and the warmth of his embrace. He is also survived by his siblings, Jim (Connie) Thompson of Charleston, Carole (Mike) Burke of Mattoon, and Jerry (Marla) Thompson of Windsor.

Preceding him in death were his parents, James and Helen, his beloved wife Vickie, his son Jason, and his sister Joyce French.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home in Windsor. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
