LOUISVILLE — North Clay hit the 19-point stride as the Cardinals downed Neoga, 66-33 in high school boys basketball action Tuesday evening.

The Cardinals moved into a 19-6 opening quarter lead and produced another 19 points in the second period to lead 38-23 at halftime. They came back again with 19 points in the third quarter to lead 57-31. The Cardinals ended up with nine points in the final quarter.

Five players finished in double figures. Cody Zimdars led the way with 20 points. He got the Cardinals off in the right direction in the opening quarter with 10 points on three field goals and three of three at the line. He finished with seven field goals, one a three-pointer, and five of five at the line.

Also in double digits were Lucas Griffey with 13, Mason Byers with 10, all in the third quarter, and Carder Walden with 10.

Neoga was led by Trenton Ballinger with 12 on four three-pointers and Malik Coy with 10 on four field goals, two from beyond the arc.

In junior varsity play, North Clay captured a 51-30 victory. The Cardinals were led in scoring by Talon Hemphill and Grant Probst with 10 each.

Neoga was led by Fisher Porter with 10.

Neoga won a freshman/sophomore contest, 30-27.

At Dieterich

Dieterich ran out to a 17-2 opening quarter lead and went on to down St. Elmo/Brownstown by a 55-33 tally Tuesday evening.

The Maroons’ Bryce Bohnhoff was on fire in the opening quarter, connecting on six field goals for 12 points. Ezra Cook chipped in with a three-pointer and Brock Niemerg hit a basket.

The lead stood at 32-14 at halftime as Gavin Meinhart, Niemerg and Jackon Icenogle hit a three-pointer each.

St. Elmo/Brownstown had a slight 13-11 third quarter edge as Kyle Seabaugh and Jayden Hughett hit a three-pointer each and Bentley Sanders scored four.

But Dieterich finished out with a 12-6 final period.

Bohnhoff connected on eight field goals and was two of two at the line for 18 points for the winners. Niemerg added 12.

St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Hughett and Benji Lowe with eight points each.

At Newton

This one was a close contest from the beginning to the end as Teutopolis edged out Newton 61-57 Tuesday evening.

The Wooden Shoes held a 13-12 opening quarter lead as Gavin Buening connected on two three-pointers and Joey Probst hit from beyond the arc.

Newton remained close with four points from Kody Bergbower and a three-pointer by Hayden Mulvey.

Both teams tallied 14 points in the second period as T-town led 27-26.

Gavin Addis connected for five while Jason Kreke and Landyn Thoele had four each for the Shoes.

Bergbower hit two baskets and a free throw for five for the Eagles while four other players scored.

Newton then moved into a 43-39 lead in the third period as Mulvey put in two three-pointers and a regular basket for eight.

But, T-town came roaring back with a 22-14 final period to pull out the victory. Isaac McWhorter, who had scored six points through the first three quarters, knocked in a three-pointer, two regular baskets and two of two at the free throw line for nine points while Addis connected on five of six at the free throw line and Buening added another three-pointer.

McWhorter finished with 15 points on six field goals, one a three-pointer, and two of two at the line to lead the Shoes. Addis chipped in with 14.

Newton was led by H. Mulvey with five baskets, four from three-point range, for 14 while Bergbower added six baskets and two free throws, also for 14. D. Wolf chipped in with 11. The Eagles are now 10-11 on the season and return to action Friday against Marshall.

Teutopolis also claimed the junior varsity win, 65-32. The Shoes were led by Bryce Niebrugge with 11 points as 11 players scored.

Newton was led by Ian Kessler with eight.

At Mulberry Grove

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City pulled out a 58-56 win over Mulberry Grove in action Tuesday evening.

The Bobcats moved into a 15-10 lead in the opening quarter and led 31-25 at halftime.

CHBC took a 14-13 edge in the third period but had to fight off Mulberry Grove in the final quarter, 18-13 run.

Three players hit double figures for the Bobcats. Griffin Vaughn connected on nine field goals, two of those three-pointers, for 20 while Porter Lilly added 16 and Remington Howell 10.

At Altamont

Altamont put the hurt on Flora by handing the Wolves a 59-38 loss Tuesday evening.

The Indians edged out to an 11-9 opening quarter lead as Jacob Johnson scored five points and Kade Milleville four.

The Indians got to rolling offensively with a 20-16 second period to lead 31-25 at halftime. K. Milleville scored seven points on a regular basket, a three-pointer and two of two at the line.

Altamont then went on a run, outscoring Flora by a 16-7 third quarter tally and a 12-6 final period score.

Parker Bell hit four points on a three and a free throw while K. Milleville added on five more points.

K. Milleville finished with 19 points on seven field goals, three of those coming from beyond the arc, and two of two at the line. Cooper McManaway added 10 while Jacob Johnson also scored 10.

Altamont improved to 15-8 on the season.

In junior varsity action, Altamont was a 51-31 winner. The Indians were led by Nate Lurkins with 19 points and Kaiden Wolff with 14.

At Windsor

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg moved into the opening quarter 17-13 lead and led 37-32 at halftime.

Unfortunately for the Hatchets, Pana came back with a 35-29 second half to pull out a 67-63 victory.

Wyatt Wetherell hit eight field goals that included three trifectas and went four of five at the free throw line for 23.

Also in double figures was Brody Bible with seven field goals and three free throws for 17.

The Hatchets drop to 13-12 on the season and are back in action Friday at Mulberry Grove.

Windsor/Stew-Stras won the junior varsity contest, 59-43.

Cumberland put together a 34-9 opening half run on South Central and ended with a 54-28 victory Tuesday evening.

The Pirates’ Kade McMechan and Reed Miller scored four points each in the opening quarter. Miller added six more to his total in the second period while Zack Harmon scored six. Cameron Roedl and Chase Stewart added a three-pointer each.

Roedl put in three baskets in the third quarter for six points while Griffin Saylor hit a three-pointer.

Miller led the Pirates with six field goals and a free throw for 13 points while Harmon added 12 and Roedl 11.

South Central was led by Westin Neilson with eight field goals, five of those three-pointers, for 21 points.
