WINDSOR — North Clay came calling at Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg in high school boys basketball action Tuesday evening and went home an 89-54 winner as the two National Trail Conference teams sharpened their skills for next week’s NTC Tournament.
North Clay ran out to a 21-14 opening quarter lead and led 41-21 at halftime.
Mason Byers and Lucas Griffy were the one-two scoring punch for the Cardinals as all five starters finished in double figures.
Byers hit 12 field goals, three from beyond the arc, for 21 points while Griffy connected on eight field goals and four of five at the line for 20. Cody Zimdars added 18 points while Kailen Atwood and Carder Walden finished with 11 each.
Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by Jakob Gurgel with 11 points. He connected on four field goals, three of those three-pointers. The Hatchets finished with 12 three-pointers.
The Hatchets dropped to 2-3 in the NTC, 12-8 overall. North Clay is now 3-3 in the conference, 12-6 overall.
North Clay edged Windsor/Stew-Stras 38-36 in junior varsity play. Grant Probst led the winners with 16 points while Brodie Adair added 10.
Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by K. Morris with 12 and M. Manhart with 11.
Windsor/Stew-Stras will host St. Anthony Friday.

At Mattoon
Neoga moved into a 14-6 opening quarter lead and led 33-24 at halftime. The Indians went on for a 52-42 win over South Central Tuesday evening at Lake Land College.
Neoga’s Kaden Bryant hit eight of his team’s 14 opening quarter points. He continued on with nine of his team’s 19 second quarter points.
Neoga finished out with a 19-18 second half.
Bryant connected on eight field goals, one a three-pointer, and was five of seven at the line for 22 points.
South Central was led by Aidan Hoover with 12 points on three field goals, one from three-point range, and five of six at the line and Westin Neilson with five field goals, two of those three-pointers.

At Martinsville
St. Elmo/Brownstown trailed Martinsville early but came on strong to claim a 56-37 victory in Egyptian Illini Conference action Tuesday evening.
The Bluestreaks held a 20-11 opening quarter lead but the Eagles came back to tie the score at 27-27 at halftime. St. Elmo/Brownstown then had a 29-10 second half run.
Three players were in double figures at the end of the contest for SEB. Bentley Sanders led the way with 14 points while Graidon Wilhour and Dodge Willms added 11 each.
Sanders had three blocked shots. G. Wilhour led in steals with four. Hayden Hughett pulled down six rebounds and Ryan Powell had four assists.
St. Elmo/Brownstown is now 2-0 in the EIC and 10-9 overall and returns to play today hosting Edinburg.

At Toledo
Cumberland couldn’t find the basket in the opening quarter but came back strong in the second period for a 25-20 halftime lead on Marshall.
The Pirates then went on for a 41-33 victory. Cumberland trailed Marshall 13-4 as only Cameron Roedl and Isaac Venatta hit a basket.
But the second quarter, the Pirates got on a roll. Chase Stewart put in three from beyond the arc for nine points while Roedl hit a regular basket and two threes for eight. Reed Miller contributed four points.
Marshall came back with a 9-5 third quarter but once again, Cumberland got back to scoring in the final period with an 11-4 run.
Stewart hit three three-pointers and was three of four at the line for 12 points while Venatta added 11 and Roedl 10.

Newton moved into a 29-18 halftime lead on Mount Carmel and went on for a 49-42 victory.
The Eagles held a 29-18 halftime lead but the Aces came back with a 13-7 third quarter to pull within 36-31.
Newton then finished with a 13-11 final period for the victory. Eli Wolf was the lone Eagles player in double digits with 17. He hit three three-pointers and four two-pointers for 17. He was the only Newton player in double figures.
