LOUISVILLE — This game, heard on 979XFM, went overtime before Altamont pulled out a 65-64 victory over North Clay as two National Trail Conference teams clashed Friday evening in boys high school basketball.
Altamont edged out to a 15-10 opening quarter lead as Kade Milleville scored seven points and Cooper McManaway and Zaine Miller hit two baskets each.
The Indians still held the lead at halftime, 26-23. K. Milleville knocked in four more baskets and Cooper Pals connected on a three-pointer.
North Clay remained close as Cody Zimdars put in seven points and Carder Walden scored four points.
The Cardinals kept the momentum with a 20-19 edge in the third quarter to trail only 45-43 going into the final period. Five players scored for North Clay and Walden led with five.
North Clay then had a 10-8 final quarter run to push the contest into overtime. Zimdars hit an off-balance shot with 7.9 seconds remaining that tied the game. Mason Byers connected on two baskets and Walden put in two more free throws as he hit seven of seven at the line over the first three quarters.
In the overtime, Altamont came back with baskets by Jacob Johnson and Miller but and McManaway hit one of two to at the line to put Altamont up by three.
After a turnover, Altamont got the ball to K. Milleville who spun in the lane, was fouled with 3.1 seconds left. He hit the first free throw to put Altamont up 65-64 but missed the second and North Clay rebounded but a shot from half court didn’t go in and Altamont had the win.
K. Milleville finishied with 21 points on nine field goals, two of those three-pointers, and was one of two at the line. McManaway added 18 points on four baskets, two from the three-point range and was 12 of 18 at the line. Miller also tallied in double figures with 11.
The Indians are 2-2 in the conference, 11-7 overall.
North Clay was led by Zimdars and Walden with 17 points each. Zimdars hit six field goals, two from the three-point line, and was two of two with free throws. Walden connected on four baskets, two of those three-pointers and hit seven of seven free throws.
The junior varsity victory went to Altamont, 56-37. Nate Lurkins led the winners with 19 points while Carson Milleville added 12 and Hayden Bridges 10.
North Clay was led by Grant Probst with 20 and Cooper Lewis with 10.

At Effingham
Effingham St. Anthony tallied a 59-52 victory over Breese Mater Dei Friday evening.
St. Anthony held a 14-10 opening quarter lead on Mater Dei. Jonny Gannaway scored five points while Keenan Griffith added three.
But Mater Dei came charging back with a 21-13 second quarter as Peppenhorst went on a run, nailing five baskets for 10 points.
The Bulldogs came back with a 15-13 second quarter. Griffith then went on a run from beyond the arc in the third quarter, knocking in three and was two of two at the line for 11 points as the Bulldogs pulled within 44-42.
St. Anthony carried the momentum into the final period with a 17-8 tally for the victory.
Griffith continued his big-time scoring with a basket and put in five free throws for seven.
Griffith finished with 24 points on six field goals, four of those three-pointers, and was eight of 14 at the line. Also in double digits was Miles Waldhoff with 10.
St. Anthony also claimed the junior varsity game, 58-49. Blake Verdeyen scored 15 and Will Bierman 10.

At Effingham
Effingham held the lead through three quarters but Mattoon tied in the fourth period to send the game into overtime.
The Hearts then finished out with an 11-8 OT to claim a 63-60 victory over the Green Wave in Friday evening action.
The Hearts moved into a 15-11 opening quarter lead as Jenner Pals hit for five points and Cannon Bockhorn put in two baskets for four.
Mattoon played the Hearts even in the second period, each scoring 11 points and EHS had a 16-11 third quarter as Pals hit three baskets for six points and Cole Phillips finished with five in the quarter.
But here came Mattoon in the final period with a 16-11 run to tie the score.
Then in the overtime period, the Hearts connected on their free throws, hitting seven and outscoring Mattoon 11-8 for the win.
Pals tallied 26 points as the lone player in double figures. Hit six eight field goals, two from three-point range, and was eight of 10 at the line. Bockhorn added nine and Jake Niebrugge and Cole Phillips eight each.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg ran out to a 23-13 opening quarter lead and went on for a 76-39 win Friday.
The Hatchets led 39-19 at halftime and had a 28-14 third period run.
Four players hit double figures. Auston Rahn scored 15 points on six field goals, one a three-pointer and two free throws. Wyatt Wetherell finished with 13 while Tyler Vonderheide and Brody Bible tallied 12 each.
The Hatchets are now 12-7 on the season. and back in action Tuesday at North Clay.
Windsor/Stew-Stras also claimed the junior varsity game, 96-42.

Brock Niemerg connected on two three-pointers and a regular basket in the quarter while Bryce Bohnhoff hit two baskets and two free throw and Jackson Icenogle a three.
Ezra Cook took over in the second quarter with eight points and Icenogle and Bohnhoff chipped in with five each as Dieterich led 39-12.
Niemerg finished with 14 points on six field goals, two from three-point range, while Bohnhoff added 13 and Icenogle 12 for the winners.
South Central was led by Hudson Moore with nine.

Teutopolis moved into a 15-11 opening quarter lead and finished strong with a 27-10 final quarter for a 58-46 victory over Tuscola Friday evening.
Jason Kreke scored six points and four other players put in a basket each as the Wooden Shoes moved ahead in the opening quarter. But Tuscola came back to pull within 27-26 at halftime.
Tuscola continued on with a 10-4 third quarter to lead 36-31. The Shoes only had one basket in that third quarter by Landyn Thoele.
But, in the final period, T-town went on a 27-10 tear as Isaac McWhorter hit a three-pointer and two free throws for five while L. Buening scored on two three-pointers and Gavin Addis hit two baskets that included a three and was two of two at the line for seven.
T-town finished with three players in double figures. Kreke led the way with 13 points on six field goals and one free throw. L. Buening added 12 and Isaac McWhorter 10.
The Shoes also won the junior varsity game, 60-32. Eric Weidner led with 14 while Kendal Mette added 11 and Sam Probst 10.

Cumberland played host to Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and claimed a 66-37 win Friday evening.
The Pirates ran out to a 21-11 opening quarter lead as Gavin Wormhoudt connected on three baskets for six points while Isaac Venatta added five.
The lead stood at 37-17 at halftime. Kade McMechan and Chase Stewart put in a three each while Venatta added on four more points.
The Pirates had a 24-14 third quarter. Stewart hit two from beyond the arc and a free throw for seven while Reed Miller added six points.
Five players finished in double digits while Stewart and Venatta scored 13 each and Miller added 12 and McMechan and Wormhoudt 10 each.
The Bobcats were led by Griffin Vaughn with 14 points on six field goals, two from beyond the arc.

Patoka/Odin edged ahead in the opening quarter 17-16 but SEB came back with a 13-4 second period to lead 29-21 at halftime.
Patoka/Odin then had a 13-6 third quarter but SEB held a 35-34 lead going into the final quarter and both teams tallied seven for the Eagles to win by a point.
Jayden Hughett led the way with 12 points on five field goals, one a three-pointer and one free throw. Graiden Wilhour and Benji Lowe finished with 10 each.
G. Wilhour led in steals with five. Lowe had had three blocked shots. Hughett led in assists with four.
SEB has a 9-9 record.

Newton mounted a comeback to pull within 42-36 in the third quarter but Lawrenceville stood firm in the final period with an 18-16 run.
Newton had two players in double figures. Kody Bergbower led with 22 points on eight field goals, two of those three-pointers, and four of four at the line. Jacob Oldham chipped in with 11.
