 Dieterich, WSS, South Central, Neoga, Cumberland Claim Friday Boys Basketball Wins

DIETERICH — Dieterich High School played host to Altamont Friday evening in boys basketball and came out a 60-50 winner.

The Indians edged out to a 13-12 lead on Dieterich and led 19-18 at halftime. During the second quarter, Kade Milleville drove to the basket and put in his 1,000 career point.

Dieterich went on a 23-13 third quarter run as Ezra Cook nailed five baskets that included one three-pointer and was one of one at the line for 12 points while Bryce Bohnhoff put in six and Jackson Icenogle hit a three-pointer.

It was mostly free throws in the final period for Dieterich. The Maroons connected on 11 with Brock Niemerg hitting a basket and five of six at the line while Bohnhoff added on three more baskets and was four of four at the line for 11.

Cook finished the game with nine field goals, two from three-point range, and was two of three at the line for 22 points. Bohnhoff hit five field goals and was seven of nine at the line for 17. Niemerg scored 13.

Altamont was led by Kade Milleville with five field goals, one a three-pointer, and four of four at the line for 15 while Zaine MIller chipped in with 12.

Dieterich won the junior varsity game 51-43. Ben Schottman led Dieterich with 17 points. Altamont was led by Nate Lurkins with 11, Carson Milleville with 10 and Blake Berg with 10.

At St. Elmo

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg ran out to a 21-8 opening quarter lead and never looked back in a 53-32 win over St. Elmo/Brownstown Friday.

WSS had two players finish in double digits. Wyatt Wetherell led the way with 18 points on seven field goals, three of those from beyond the arc, and one of two at the line. Tyler Vonderheide chipped in with 10.

St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Graidon Wilhour with 11 points on three field goals, one a three-pointer, and four of four at the line.

Windsor/Stew-Stras improved to 1-2 in the National Trail Conference and 10-7 overall.

St. Elmo/Brownstown dropped to 1-3 in the conference, 8-8 overall.

At Farina

South Central tallied a 68-63 victory over Cisne Friday evening.

The two teams were tied at 15-15 after the opening quarter. Hudson Moore scored 11 of his team’s 15 points, connecting on four field goals, one a three-pointer, and two of two at the line.

Cisne’s Dagg scored 11 of his team’s 15 points.

The lead stood at 36-25 at halftime. Moore added seven more points to his total while Westin Neilson put in three from beyond the arc and a regular basket for 11.

Cisne came back with a 36-32 second half but South Central held on for the victory.

Moore scored 31 points on 11 field goals, two from beyond the arc, and seven of eight at the line. Neilson added 25.

At Martinsville

Neoga came back in the final quarter with a 26-12 run to capture a 60-53 win over Martinsville in a non-conference matchup Friday evening.

Martinsville edged out to a 13-12 opening quarter lead and led 28-22 at halftime. The Bluestreaks had a 13-12 third period and led 41-34 going into the final quarter.

Neoga then mounted a comeback as Kaden Bryant hit a basket and was six of six at the line for eight points while Malik Coy knocked in a three-pointer and was two of two at the line and Cayden Hakman hit a three-pointer and a free throw.

Three players scored in double figures for the winners. Roy finished with seven field goals and two free throws for 16 while Coy hit four three-pointers and four free throws, also for 16. Bryant chipped in with 10.

At Martinsville

Cumberland trailed Tri-County 17-11 after the opening quarter and 30-27 at halftime. But the second half was all Cumberland as the Pirates had a 39-24 second half run for a 66-54 victory.

The Pirates started their run in the third period to move into a 46-37 third quarter lead. Kade McMechan scored seven of his nine points in that third quarter while Reed Miller and Isaac Venatta put in four points each and Cameron Roedl hit a three.

Roedl took over in the fourth quarter, scoring 10 on five baskets.

Roedl finished with 21 points on nine field goals, three from beyond the arc. Venatta added 18 and Miller 12.
