Shelby County Rescue Squad Chief Jordan Camic accepts a $400 donation check from Touchstone Energy Balloonfest Coordinator Kevin Bernson. “Any funds collected from the annual fall balloon event goes back into the community,” noted Bernson, who works for Shelby Electric Cooperative. At the event, the rescue squad had their field truck on display showing off their equipment used at an accident scene to people in attendance. They also provided volunteers to help with parking and a volunteer to be on site during the Saturday and Sunday morning balloon flights.
“As a volunteer organization we rely heavily on donations from the community. We are grateful and blessed to receive donations like the one from the Balloonfest and look forward to assisting again at the 2026 event,” stated Chief Camic. “Many mistake us for being part of the Fire Department or Shelby County Dive Team. While we do assist with other rescue groups, we are a standalone operation. Events like this help us explain who we are and what we do,” continued Chief Camic.
The Shelby County Rescue Squad is made up of approximately 15 volunteers. They respond to all area car accidents and assist with other local emergency response agencies as needed. They

currently operate out of the Shelby County Fire Department facility but hope to one day have their own building and a second needed rescue vehicle.
