Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois has announced that it recently achieved national reaccreditation through the Council on Accreditation (C.O.A.) during its centennial year
celebration. This accomplishment signifies that Catholic Charities has successfully implemented best practice standards in the field of human services. C.O.A. evaluated all aspects of Catholic Charities’ programs, services, management, and administration.
Since 1925, Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois has provided critical programs to people of all faiths throughout its 28-county service area in south central Illinois. The agency operates offices and facilities in the communities of Quincy, Beardstown, Springfield, Decatur, Mattoon, Effingham, Carlinville, Alton and Granite City. Catholic Charities provides basic needs services (i.e. food, clothing, crisis assistance) as well as comprehensive, professional programs in the areas of counseling, social work, guardianship, health and legal services. Every year, thousands of vulnerable individuals and families are faithfully served by Catholic Charities in fulfillment of its mission. The agency was originally accredited through C.O.A. in 2001. “We are pleased to achieve this important validation of the quality programs offered through Catholic Charities,” stated Steven Roach, Executive Director. “We hope everyone who supports us can take a sense of pride in this accomplishment.”
C.O.A. is an independent, not-for-profit accreditor of the full continuum of community-based behavioral health care and social service organizations in the United States and Canada. The accreditation process involves detailed analysis of an organization’s administration, management, and service delivery functions against international standards of best practice. The standards driving accreditation ensure that services are well coordinated, culturally competent, evidence-based, outcomes-oriented, and provided by a skilled and supported workforce. C.O.A. accreditation demonstrates accountability in the management of resources, sets standardized best practice thresholds for service and administration, and increases organizational capacity and accountability by creating a framework for ongoing quality improvement.
