 Brownstown/St. Elmo, Altamont, Teutopolis, Windsor/Stew-Stras Nab Girls High School Basketball Wins

BROWNSTOWN — Brownstown/St. Elmo ran out to a 22-5 opening quarter lead and tallied a 69-31 win over Neoga in National Trail Conference girls basketball Thursday evening.

Madi Miller connected on three baskets and was three of four at the line for nine points while Dayana Haslett added six and Danika Ramsey chipped in with a three-pointer.

The lead went to 48-9 at halftime. Haslett hit for eight points while Addie Sasse chipped in with seven and Miller added seven.

The lone baskets for Neoga were from Malory Henderson and Molly Moran.

Both teams scored 12 in the third quarter as BSE held a 60-21 lead.

Neoga had a slight 10-9 final period as Lola Harkte scored five points on a regular basket and a three-pointer.

Four players finished in double figures for the Bombers. Miller hit six baskets and was six of eight at the line for 18 points. Haslett added 16 while Ramsey chipped in with 13 and Sasse finished with 11.

Neoga was led by Henderson with eight points on two field goals and four of six at the line.

In the junior varsity contest, Neoga was a 42-28 winner. Neoga was led by Lola Hartke with 16. BSE was led by Sierra Mason with nine.

At Altamont

Altamont played host to Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City as two National Trail Conference teams met Thursday evening.

Altamont claimed the 54-20 victory.

The Indians ran out to a 21-7 opening quarter lead as Ella Nelson hit a regular basket, a three-pointer and was two of four at the line for seven while Kennedi Schultz scored four points and Ada Roberts hit a three.

Altamont pushed its lead to 38-12 at halftime. Nelson added seven more points and Reagan Kuenstler put in two three-pointers.

Altamont ended with a 16-8 second half.

Nelson finished with 16 points to lead the winners with four field goals, two of those three-pointers, and six of eight at the line. Kuenstler chipped in with 11.

CHBC as led by Lena Bowlin with eight points on three field goals and two of five at the line. CHBC dropped to 1-10 on the season. The Bobcats will be back in action at Bethany Saturday at 10:30 a.m. against Okaw Valley.

Altamont improved to 2-1 in the National Trail Conference and 6-5 overall.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis ran out to a 23-4 opening quarter lead on Newton and finished with a 70-26 victory Thursday evening.

The Wooden Shoes’ Anna Probst hit three baskets that included two three-pointers, and was two of two at the line for 10 points in that first quarter run. Allie Ruholl put in five points on a three-pointer and two of two at the line.

The lead went to 32-10 at halftime. An. Probst added seven more points to her total.

In the third quarter, the Shoes had a 25-11 score. Probst continued on with two three-pointers and a regular while Jerzi Gaddis hit a three, two regular baskets and a free throw. Both players scored eight points.

Two players hit double figures for the Shoes. Probst finished with nine field goals, five from three-point range, and two of two at the line for 25 points. Gaddis added 12 points.

The Shoes were led in rebounding by Malea Helmink with 15. Gaddis had four steals and Allie Ruholl three.

Newton was led by Maddie Brummer with 10 points and six rebounds. The Eagles drop to 6-5 on the season and travel to Sullivan Monday.

In junior varsity play, Teutopolis was a 46-21 winner. Newton was led by Gentry with seven.

At Tuscola

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg claimed a 46-37 victory over Tuscola Thursday evening.

The Hatchets trailed Tuscola 10-8 after the opening quarter and 18-15 at halftime.

Tuscola still held the lead with a 13-9 third quarter to push ahead 31-24.

That’s when Windsor/Stew-Stras went on a tear. Kendra Hayes led the way, connecting on four baskets that included a three-pointer and hit a free throw for 10 in the final period. Clarie VonBehrens tallied five while Claire Holland had three and Cameron Carey put in a basket.

The Hatchets pulled out the 46-37 victory. Hayes finished with 20 points on seven field goals, two from beyond the arc, and four of eight at the line.
