CENTRALIA — Effingham St. Anthony split victories with Centralia in junior high boys basketball action Thursday.
The Bullpups won the seventh-grade contest, 53-23. St. Anthony ran out to a 17-3 opening quarter lead as Nash Hoene knocked in nine points and Ryan Wohltman six.
The lead stood at 28-8 at halftime. Hoene added on two more baskets and a free throw.
Hoene finished with seven field goals, one a three-pointer, and was five of six at the line for 20 points. Also in double figurse was Ryan Wohltman with 10.
In the eighth-grade contest, Centralia claimed a 51-37 victory. Centralia edged out to a 13-10 opening quarter lead and led 26-17 at halftime.
St. Anthony’s P. Phillips put in nine field goals, three from beyond the arc, and three free throws for 24 points.

At Effingham
Effingham and Mattoon each won a contest in Thursday evening play.
Mattoon captured the seventh-grade victory, 42-24.
The two teams played to a 5-5 opening quarter lead before Mattoon edged ahead 17-14. Mattoon then had a 25-12 second half.
The Mustangs were led by Noah Hamilton with 15 points on six field goals, three from beyond the arc.
In the eighth-grade contest, Effingham won 40-32 despite Mattoon taking a 10-4 opening quarter lead.
The Mustangs came back with a 12-2 second period to move ahead 16-12 at halftime then had a 15-12 final quarter behind a three-pointer by Deek Thompson and 10 of 12 at the line.
Thompson finished with 22 points.

Jasper County fell to Olney in both games Thursday evening.
Olney won the seventh-grade game, 32-23, edging out to a 14-9 halftime lead then outscored Jasper County 18-12 in the second half.
Cash Collins finished with 10 points for Jasper County and was the top defender. Tristian Lingafelter added nine points and was the top rebounder with Derek Anderson. Kam Klier was the top passer.
In the eighth-grade contest, Jasper County and Olney were tied at 20-20 at halftime. Olney then had a 33-18 second half run.
Jacob Guzman led in scoring with 22. Aaden Henkel was the top rebounder, Alex Keller the top defender and Trace Cornwell the top passer.
Jasper County is 6-7 in both seventh- and eighth-grade play.
