Effingham and Effingham St. Anthony split victories Thursday evening in junior high boys basketball competition.

In the seventh-grade game, St. Anthony was an easy 59-10 winner. The Bullpups ran out to a 24-2 opening quarter lead and never looked back.

Hoene led the way in scoring with eight points while Meinhart and Wohltman added seven each.

Effingham was led by Koeberlein with six.

In the eighth-grade contest, Effingham won over St. Anthony 27-20.

The Mustangs edged out to a 9-7 opening quarter lead and led 21-11 at halftime.

St. Anthony came back with a 9-6 run in the second half.

Effingham was led by Jared Klingler with eight points.

St. Anthony was led by M. Schiedemantel with seven.

At Effingham

Stewardson-Strasburg captured both victories over Effingham Sacred Heart Thursday.

Stew-Stras was a 38-15 winner in the seventh-grade game, taking an 11-2 opening quarter and leading 18-8 at halftime.

Nichols scored 14 for the winners.

In the eighth-grade game, Stew-Stras edged the Sharmrocks 16-13. Sacred Heart held a 9-8 halftime lead but Stew-Stras came back with a 5-2 third quarter and finished out with a 3-2 edge.

Richter led the winners with nine points.

Hoyes led Sacred Heart with seven.

At Vandalia

Teutopolis traveled to Vandalia and handed the host squad two losses Thursday evening.

The Wooden Shoes won the seventh-grade game 47-18, taking a 10-6 opening quarter lead then holding Vandalia scoreless in the second period to lead 28-6 at halftime.

Bryson Meyer led the Shoes with 15 points while Dillon Deters added 11.

In the eighth-grade contest, T-town ripped out to a 26-0 opening quarter lead and won 56-8.

Eighteen T-town players scored in the contest. Mason Giles and Luke Ziegler led with six each.

Dieterich played host to Windsor and sent the visitors home with two losses Thursday.

Dieterich tallied a 45-6 win in the seventh-grade contest. Dieterich held a 32-0 halftime lead.

The winners were led in scoring by Brody Niemerg with 12.

In eighth-grade action, Dieterich was a 48-21 winner. Dieterich held a 34-8 halftime lead.

Ten players scored for Dieterich led by Brock Koester with 10 and Colten Keck with eight.

Jasper County was a winner over North Clay in both games Thursday.

Jasper County took an 18-8 first half lead in the seventh-grade game and went on for a 36-13 victory.

Cash Collins led the winners with 10 points and was the top rebounder. Rafe Thomann was the top defender and top passer.

G. Boose led North Clay with three.

In eighth-grade action, Jasper County was a 43-25 winner. Jacob Guzman led three players in double figures with 14. Grant Frichtl and Alex Keller added 12 each.

Keller was the top rebounder and top defender. Frichtl was the top passer.

North Clay was led by Owen Jones with nine.

At Altamont

Altamont and Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City split victories Thursday evening.

Altamont was a 38-30 winner in the seventh-grade game. Altamont held an 18-6 halftime lead.

Arnold scored 12 and Nelson 10 for the winners.

CHBC was led by Tyce Kircher with 14.

In the eighth-grade contest, CHBC won 44-20. Altamont led 10-7 after the opening quarter but CHBC came back with a 10-5 second period run and didn’t look back.

Drake Thull led in scoring with 14 while Easton Kramer added 11.

Altamont was led by Neu with 10.

South Central traveled to Odin and fell in both games.

Odin was a 30-16 winner in the seventh-grade game.

In eighth-grade play, Odin won 54-27. Odin ran out to a 14-6 opening quarter lead and led 27-14 at halftime.

South Central was led by Smith with 12 points and Skibinski with eight.
