ALTAMONT — Altamont hit five three-pointers and ran out to a 9-0 opening quarter lead as the Indians defeated Casey-Westfield 34-12 in girls high school basketball Thursday evening.

The Indians’ Reagan Kuenstler and Ada Roberts put in a three-pointer each in the opening quarter as they edged out to a 9-0 lead.

Altamont pushed that to 15-3 at halftime and held the Warriors scoreless in the third quarter for a 22-3 lead.

Avery Aldrich was the lone player for Altamont in double figures with 12 on five field goals and two of two at the line. Roberts chipped in with nine.

The Indians are now 4-2 on the season.

In junior varsity action, Altamont had a 53-20 win.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis played host to Benton and was a 43-34 winner Thursday evening.

The Wooden Shoes led by only two points at halftime, 20-18. Kelsey Niemerg put in six points in the opening quarter 12-7 run.

Benton came back with an 11-8 second quarter. But the Shoes had a 12-10 third period edge.

Anna Probst scored five points as she connected on a three-pointer while Jersey Gaddis also hit from beyond the arc.

The Shoes then had an 11-6 final period, hitting seven of eight from the free throw line.

Niemerg finished as the lone player in double figures with 12 on five field goals and two of two at the line. An. Probst added nine. Malea Helmink led the team in rebounds with 12. Sophia Martin, Allie Ruholl and Gabby Tegler had three steals each.

At Louisville

Neoga picked up a National Trail Conference victory over North Clay Thursday by a 49-31 tally.

The Indians edged out to an 11-8 opening quarter lead and led 21-19 at halftime. Neoga then had a 28-12 second half.

Malory Henderson was the lone Neoga player in double digits with 18 points on four field goals and nine of 12 at the line.

Neoga improves to 2-2 and returns to action Saturday against Georgetown Ridge Farm at Emerald Acres.

At Dieterich

Brownstown/St. Elmo continued its hot scoring by downing Dieterich, 62-37 Thursday evening.

BSE edged out to an 11-7 opening quarter lead and then went on a 21-6 second quarter run to lead 32-13 at halftime.

Danika Ramsey connected on two three-pointers in the opening quarter. Dayana Haslett hit eight points in the second period while Madi Miller added six and Addie Sasse five.

The lead stood at 45-25 going into the final quarter. In that final period, BSE had a 17-12 score to finish out with the 25-point victory.

Haslett led the way with nine field goals, one a three-pointer and two of two at the line for 21 points while Ramsey added 14 and Miller 12.

Dieterich was led by Addison Miller with 17 points on seven field goals that included three from beyond the arc.

Dieterich claimed the junior varsity game, 22-7. Boerngen led with six points.

Cumberland was an easy 57-19 winner over Oblong/Palestine/Hutsonville Thursday evening.

The Pirates ripped out to a 14-2 opening quarter lead as Jude Miller scored six points and Jade Carr hit a three-pointer.

Cumberland led 33-10 at halftime. Carr hit two more three-pointers and two regular baskets for 10 in the period.

Carr continued on in the third period with two three-pointers and a regular basket for eight while Miller contributed six and Raegan Jones hit a three.

The Pirates finished with three players in double figures. Carr hit eight field goals, five from three-point range, for 21 points while Miller added 17 and Alysa Dittamore 10.

Martinsville edged Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 30-28 Thursday evening.

The Bluestreaks took an 8-4 opening quarter lead and led 19-14 at halftime.

CHBC came back with an 8-7 edge in the third quarter to trail by four going into the final period then had a 6-4 run only to fall short.

The Bobcats were led by Ethel Stuckemeyer and Lena Bowlin with eight points each while Harper Lilly added seven.

CHBC is back in action Monday against Shelbyville.

At Newton

Paris came calling and captured a 62-55 victory over Newton Thursday evening.

The Eagles moved into a 13-6 opening quarter lead but Paris came back with a 27-18 run to lead 33-31 at halftime. The Tigers then had a 29-24 second half.

Newton was led by Grace Schumacher and Alani Bergbower with 15 points each. Schumacher hit three field goals and was nine of 12 at the line while Bergbower connected on six field goals, two from three-point range, and was one of one at the line.

Claire Probst led in rebounds for the Eagles with six. Schumacher had three steals and two assists. Allie Hermann also had two assists.

Newton drops to 4-2 on the season and will be back in action Monday at Edwards County (Albion).

Paris won the junior varsity game 44-25. Gentry and Brummer scored eight for the Eagles.
