 C’land Edges Altamont, WSS Holds Off Sullivan, St. A Suffers Two-Point Loss, Dieterich Pounds Cisne In Boys Basketball

TOLEDO — Cumberland edged Altamont 48-43 in high school boys basketball action Tuesday evening.

Altamont took off to a 10-4 opening quarter lead as Zaine Miller hit a three-pointer and two free throws and Cooper Pals and Kade Milleville had a basket each. The Indians held a 22-14 halftime tally.  Parker Bell put in two baskets and two free throws for six points. The Pirates were led by Cameron Roedl with two three-pointers.

The Pirates started their comeback bid in the third quarter with a 12-7 run to pull within 29-26.

Cumberland continued on with a 15-12 fourth quarter to knot the score at 41-41, sending the game into overtime. Roedl went to work in that fourth quarter with two three-pointers and two regular baskets for 10 points. Zack Harmon hit a basket and a free throw.

Altamont’s Parker Bell put in a three-pointer and Kade Milleville had two baskets while Cooper McManaway had a basket and two free throws.

Then in the overtime period, the Pirates had a 7-2 run as Roedl hit another three-pointer while Reed Miller and Harmon put in two free throws apiece.

Roedl finished with 19 points on seven field goals that included five three-pointers. Harmon added nine and Miller eight.

Altamont was led by K. Milleville with 12 points on five field goals and two free throws. Bell chipped in with nine.

Altamont was a winner in the junior varsity contest, 55-31. Blake Berg scored 23 and Hayden Bridges 12 for the winners.

Cumberland as led by Lance Lock with 13.

At Sullivan

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg edged out to a 19-17 opening quarter lead but Sullivan came roaring back with a 16-5 second period to lead 33-24 at halftime.

But the Hatchets went on an 18-9 third quarter run and held off Sullivan for a 60-54 victory Tuesday evening.

Wyatt Wetherell led the way for the winners with five field goals, two of those three-pointers, and four of five at the line for 16 points. Brody Bible added 14 points.

Windsor/Stras improved to 4-1 on the season and is back in action Thursday hosting Dieterich.

Windsor/Stew-Stras fell in the junior varsity contest, 49-48.

Dieterich zipped out to an 18-4 opening quarter lead on Cisne and went on for a 70-33 victory Tuesday evening.

Ezra Cook and Jackson Icenogle got the Maroons off in the right direction, scoring six points each in the opening quarter. Cook, Gavin Meinhart and Brock Niemerg hit a three-pointer each in the second period 16-8 run to lead 34-12 at halftime.

Four players finished in double digits for the winners. Niemerg hit five field goals, three of those from three-point range, for 13 points while Ezra Cook scored six field goals, one a three-pointer, also for 13. Bryce Bohnhoff and Jackson Icenogle contributed 12 each. Bohnhoff and Icenogle put in six field goals each.

At Salem

Effingham St. Anthony traveled to Sullivan and suffered a 49-47 loss at the hands of the Wildcats Tuesday evening.

Salem stepped out to a 14-8 opening quarter lead. Myles Waldhoff hit a three-pointer while Keenan Griffith added a regular basket and a free throw.

The Wildcats pushed their lead to 27-19 at halftime. St. Anthony came back with a slight 10-9 third period to pull within 36-29. Aiden Lauritzen put in a regular basket, a three-pointer and a free throw for six points.

In the final period, St. ANthony mounted a furious rally, outscoring Salem 18-13 only to fall short. Griffith went on a tear, knocking in three regular baskets, a three-pointer and a free throw for 10 os the Bulldogs points.

Griffith finished with 19 on eight field goals, one from beyond the ark, and two of three at the line. Also in double figures was Lauritzen with 14.

St. Anthony was a 61-44 winner over Salem in junior varsity play. Leading the Bulldogs were Alex Mayer with 17, Connor Storm with 14 and Blake Verdeyen with 13.

In a freshman/sophomore contest, St. Anthony won 43-17. Logan Gavin had 13 points for the Bulldogs.
