Laura “Loraine” Thompson, 83, of Herrick, passed away on November 29, 2025, at Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Loraine was born at home in Tower Hill on April 25, 1942, the daughter of Benjamin and Jessie (Syfert) Landers. She was a graduate of Herrick High School in the class of 1960. Loraine shared a beautiful union with her beloved husband, Raymond Lynn Thompson, for 40 years until his passing in 2011. Together, they built a life filled with joy and cherished memories.

Loraine’s legacy continues through her children, Brenda (Rocky) Kramer and Brent (Wendy) Wallace, both of Herrick; her six grandchildren, Josie Wallace, Quinton Wallace, Trystan Stevens, Hallie (Luke) Spencer, Sidney (Neil) Weatherly and Peyton (Jon) Schellhardt; four great-grandchildren, Aiden Sutter, Averie Vaughn, Aria Quandt and Noah Mei Schellhardt; two sisters, Leah Beck and Betty Allen; her stepchildren, Sonja (Denny) Lawrence, Brenda (Beef) Chernisky, and Brian Thompson, and a host of relatives who will miss her dearly.

Loraine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lynn, her stepchildren Alan and Mike Thompson, and her brother Raymond Landers.

Loraine’s work ethic was evident to all, as she devoted 14 years of service to P.R. Mallory Company in Pana. Her commitment extended to her spiritual home at Herrick Baptist Church, where she was not only a member but a beacon of faith and kindness within the community. Loraine’s interests and hobbies were as vibrant as her personality. She had an unparalleled zest for life, often found going to sales, rummage and garage sales, where she delighted in the thrill of the find. Her love for music festivals was well known, as was her enjoyment in playing cards with friends and family. Loraine was a social butterfly, cherishing each opportunity to engage with others, and she was the heart and soul of many gatherings. Her unwavering support for her loved ones in all their endeavors was a testament to her generous spirit. And let’s not forget her sweet tooth, especially for chocolate chip cookies, which she both loved to bake and share.

Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at Herrick Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at the church. Burial will follow in Myers Cemetery. Memorials in Loraine’s honor may be made to the Herrick Food Pantry. Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Cowden is assisting the family.

Loraine’s warmth, laughter, and love will be profoundly missed by all who were fortunate to know her. Her life was a beautiful tapestry of dedication, joy, and love, weaving a legacy that will be cherished and remembered by her family and the many lives she touched.
