The National Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held Friday, November 21 at the Teutopolis Banquet Hall.
The event will include a social hour at 6 p.m., a banquet dinner at 6:30 p.m., and the induction ceremony at 7 p.m.
Tickets are $10 each and may be purchased in person at the Teutopolis Banquet Hall.
Inductees this year include:
Jane Westendorf — Directors Award of Excellence in Athletics. She was instrumental in laying the groundwork and petitioning the school board to introduce girls’ athletics at Teutopolis High School. Her advocacy led to the formation of girls tennis and track teams in 1974-75, girls volleyball in 1977 and girls basketball in 1978-79.
Bill Farrey –– Twelfth Man Award. Farrey has served as a scorekeeper for over 40 years at both the junior high and high school levels for boys and girls basketball. He also contributed his time to the Tom Bryant Skills Camp, assisting with grade school basketball for both boys and girls.
Ron Reed — Coach Inductee. Reed had a 30-year coaching career with stops at Lawrenceville, Harrisburg, North Clay and Effingham. He posted an impressive overall record of 484 wins and 307 losses. He spent 15 years at the helm of the Hearts with eight 20-win seasons, three regional championships, six Apollo Conference titles and a 107-35 record.
Justin Fleener — Coach Inductee. Fleener is currently the head baseball coach at Teutopolis High School with over two decades leading the Wooden Shoes to four state championships, two state runner-up finishes and three third place finishes. He has a career record of 614 wins and 158 losses.
Jim Maroon — Official. Maroon began his officiating career in boys basketball during the 1960s and later expanded into girls basketball with over more than 30 years officiating many conference tournaments, numerous IHSA regional and sectional contests, two IHSA State Tournament games and the IBCA All-Star Game.
Ted Knapp — Official. Launched his officiating career in 1970. Over 56 years, he has served across multiple sports including basketball, baseball, football and softball. He is also a certified clinician in basketball, football and softball.
Terry Chapman — Official. (posthumously) devoted 43 years to IHSA athletics beginning in 1982. A certified boys and girls basketball official Chapman worked across Class 1A, 2A and 3A levels. He also was a volleyball official for 17 years and a football official for two years.
Mark Weiler — Sports Director at WVLN-WSEI-WIKKI-WOWA, dedicated over 35 years to covering ahtletics throughout southeastern Illinois. He has broadcast countless high school baseball and basketball games and serves as the voice of both men’s and women’s college basketball at Olney Central College.
Brittany Johnson — Former Student Athlete. A basketball standout made history at East Richland High School in Olney becoming the first player, male or female, in state history to surpass 4,000 career points, finishing with 4,031. She is currently serving as the assistant girls basketball coach at Northwestern University in Evanston.
Ross Wolf — Professional Athlete. Former Major League pitcher and standout athlete from Newton High School. He was a key member of Newton’s Class A State championship team. He was selected in the 18th round of the Major League Baseball draft. He made stops with the Florida Marlins, Baltimore Orioles, Oakland Athletics, Houston Astros and Texas Rangers.
