 Junior High Girls Basketball Results — Sept. 30

TEUTOPOLIS — Teutopolis was a double winner over North Clay in junior high girls basketball competition Tuesday.

The Wooden Shoes won a forfeit victory in seventh-grade play to improve to 2-1.

In eighth-grade action, T-town ripped out to a 10-0 opening quarter lead and had a 16-0 third period run for a 46-6 win.

Penny Dennis led the Shoes with 10 points.

North Clay was led by Sparks, McGuire and Jones with two points each.

At Effingham

Effingham St. Anthony split wins with Neoga in Tuesday evening play.

Neoga won the seventh-grade encounter, 30-14.

Neoga moved into an 8-2 opening quarter lead and led 14-6 at halftime.

Hartke led the winners with 15 points.

St. Anthony was led by N. Brumleve with seven.

In eighth-grade action, St. Anthony roared out to a 28-8 halftime lead and never looked back in the 44-18 victory.

N. Semple led the Bullpups with 19 points while B. Schultz added 11.

Neoga was led by Bear with 10.

At Altamont

Altamont and Dieterich split victories Tuesday evening.

Altamont was a 24-18 winner in the seventh-grade contest. The winners edged out to a 5-0 opening quarter lead but Altamont came roaring back to lead 15-5 at halftime.

Altamont then had a 19-3 second half for the win. There were no names listed for Altamont.

Dieterich was led by Ali Koester with 10 points.

In eighth-grade action, Dieterich was a 40-11 winner, leading 27-5 at halftime.

Emery Bill led the way with 11 points.

At Cowden

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City played host to Vandalia and captured two victories Tuesday.

CHBC won the seventh-grade game, 19-18 in overtime. Vandalia held an 8-6 halftime lead but CHBC came back with an 8-4 third period to move ahead 14-12 but Vandalia rallied with a 6-4 fourth period to tie the game sending it into overtime. CHBC then pulled out the win.

Elli Wheeler led CHBC with eight points.

In the eighth-grade contest, Vandalia was a 24-22 winner over the Bobcats.

Vandalia led 20-13 going into the final quarter. CHBC mounted a comeback with a 9-4 run but fell short.

Elaina Thompson led the Bobcats with 10 points.

“We had a hard time finding the bucket tonight,” said CHBC Coach Carolyn Wente. “The seventh-grade won in overtime but the eighth-grade let it slip away. Vandalia scored with four seconds left on the clock to secure the win.”

CHBC is back in action Thursday against South Central at 6 p.m.
