Effingham City Council members Tuesday heard about plans to wrap up work on a new comprehensive plan for the city.
Director of Public Works Jeremy Heuerman said there will be a joint meeting involving the City Council, Plan Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals in October. A public hearing on the new plan will be held by the Plan Commission in November, then the Council will adopt the plan in December.
There was discussion on authorizing City Administrator Steve Miller to seek a service agreement on an electrical supply for residential and small commercial retail customers. There was discussion to approve a tower use permit behind Hardee’s at 400 JCAN Drive, and to terminate an Agracel installment contract that has been in effect since the City purchased the Effingham Performance Center since the interest cost is down.
Assistant Fire Chief Matt Kulesza said that the city is under a burn advisory, not a burn ban due to the dry conditions. Heuerman also shared that the City received a $250,000 grant that will pay for the first phase of the reconstruction of Merchant Street, even though the work has been completed.
