Effingham St. Anthony got on the board with two runs in the third inning but trailed Altamont after the Indians had a four-run fourth to take a 4-2 lead.
But that’s not where the scoring ended as the Bulldogs pulled out a 7-5 victory Tuesday as the two National Trail Conference teams battled in a game heard on KJ Country 102.3.
Henry Brent led off the third with a single and stole second for the Bulldogs. Charley Spour doubled, bringing Brent home. With two outs, Will Bierman singled home Spour and St. Anthony led 2-0.
That lasted until the fourth when the Indians got their offense unwound, scoring four runs. With one out, Zaine Miller drew a walk and took second on a wild pitch. Brayden Elam then singled and stole second. Kaiden Wolff followed with an RBI single driving in a run. He stole second. Blake Berg drew a walk and eventually scored on an error. Carson Milleville singled home a run and Reed Stuemke singled home another run. When the dust cleared, the Indians led 4-2.
That lead went to 5-2 in the top of the fifth. Cooper McManaway singled and took second on a passed ball. Miller followed with a single. With one out, Wolff singled McManaway home.
In the bottom of the frame, the Bulldogs scored as Brent singled. He came home on a ground out by Bierman and the Bulldogs were within 5-3.
The sixth was the big frame for the Bulldogs. With one out, Will Vonderheide singled, stole second and came home on an error. Xander Beals drew a walk but was taken out on a fielder’s choice ball hit by Brent. Spour followed with an RBI single. Lauritzen was hit by a pitch. Bierman followed with a single, scoring two runs and when the inning ended, the Bulldogs had moved ahead 7-5.
Altamont rumbled in the sixth putting two runners on but the Bulldogs got out of the frame unscathed. Altamont put a runner on in the seventh only to see the game end on a strikeout.
St. Anthony finished with 11 hits led by Brent with three singles and an RBI, Spour with a single, duble and two RBI and Bierman with two singles and four RBI.
Chase Dorris picked up the pitching win. He went the last three innings, allowing six runs on one hit and three strikeouts.
Altamont ended with 10 hits but had three errors. Wolff had two singles and two RBI while McManaway added two singles. C. Milleville had a single and an RBI.

At Dieterich
This game went seven innings before Dieterich pulled out a National Trail Conference win over South Central, 3-2 Tuesday.
Dieterich moved into a 2-0 lead in the second inning when Mason Lidy reached on an error that allowed Gavin Meinhart to score. Carson Baxter singled to score Lidy.
The Cougars came back with a run in the fourth. Chase Guerrattaz singled to score Garett Shumate. South Central then tied the game in the top of the fifth. Aiden Hoover grounded out allowing courtesy runner Eli Hiestand to score, tying the game.
The score remained that way until the bottom of the ninth. With two on and two out, Andrew Hall walked it off with a single, allowing Justin Boerngen to score for the win.
Dieterich improved to 4-2 in National Trail.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg trailed Brownstown/St. Elmo 1-0 after three innings but came back to take a 2-1 victory Tuesday.
Windsor/Stew-Stras had six hits and was aided by two BSE errors.
BSE was led by Benji Lowe with a double, Zayden Gillespie and Lucas Powell with two singles each and Tucker Davison with a single and an RBI.
BSE drops to 2-5 in the National Trail Conference, 3-9 overall and returns to action Thursday vs. Ramsey-Mulberry Grove at Mulberry Grove.

The Indians finished with 11 hits and CHBC aided the winning cause for Neoga with six errors.
Isaac Wells hit a solo home run for Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City. Jonah Hardimon and Cayden Ondes added two singles each.
