Effingham Junior High School is the South Central Conference champions.

Effingham defeated Effingham St. Anthony Friday in junior high softball competition and is now the South Central Conference champions.

It’s back-to-back championships for the Mustangs.

Effingham ran out to a 3-0 opening inning lead and pushed across four more runs in the second and finished the game by the 10-run rule with three in the fifth.

Kendyl Smith and Cloie Bailey combined to toss a one-hitter. Smith went four innings, giving up the hit, one walk and striking out six. Bailey came on to throw the final inning, giving up no hits, no walks and striking out three.

Meanwhile, the Mustangs had 12 hits led by Anna Gouchenouer with two doubles, a home run and four RBI, Bailey with a double and two RBI, Mia Hartke with a double and an RBI, Mollie Niemerg with a single and double and Tinley Patton with two singles and an RBI.

The lone hit for St. Anthony was off the bat of Isabelle McDonald with a double.

Shelbyville played host to Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and claimed a 15-11 victory Friday.

The Rams edged out to a 2-1 opening inning lead then tacked on four in the second, one in the third, one in the fourth, four in the fifth and three in the sixth behind a 15-hit attack.

The Bobcats had nine hits led by Hadley Pope with a double, triple, home run and three RBI, Anna Hart with two triples and an RBI and Halee Goeckner with a single, triple and two RBI.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg ran out to an 8-0 first inning lead and ended this game in the third inning, 16-1 over North Clay Friday.

The Hatchets finished with eight hits and were aided by three errors and nine walks.

Brooklyn Hensley had a double and two RBI while Gia Bostedo and Karsyn Morris had a single and two RBI each. Izzy Manhart had a single and an RBI. Maddy Manhart and Hayden Reed had an RBI each.

Callie Holland went two innings for the win on the mound. She gave up no hits, two walks and struck out two.

North Clay dropped to 3-13 on the season.

Neoga held a 3-2 lead until the top of the sixth when Altamont broke loose with three runs then added on nine more in the seventh for a 14-3 win Friday.

The winners finished with 11 hits while Neoga had 10 errors in the contest.

Teegan Burrus led the winners with two singles, a triple and three RBI while Zoey Kraemer had a double and an RBI, Olivia Bowman and Payton Ort two singles and two RBI each and Addison Neu a single and two RBI.

Blaire Suckow went the seven innings, giving up three runs on eight hits, one walk and striking out eight.

Neoga was led in hitting by Ellie Plummer and Bliss Bear with two singles and an RBI each. Mackie White added a single and an RBI.

Saturday Games

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg competed in the Casey-Westfield Round Robin Saturday and was a 17-5 winner over the host school behind a 15-hit attack.

The Hatchets moved into a 2-0 first inning lead but Casey-Westfield came back to lead 5-4 after two innings. Windsor/Stew-Stras then tallied three in the third, eight in the fourth and ended the game in the fifth with two more runs.

The winners banged out 15 hits led by Reese Stigers with two singles, a triple and three RBI, Gracyn Montgomery with two singles and a triple, Izzy Manhart with a single, triple and four RBI, Miranda Corrie with three singles and Laney Barnard with two singles and four RBI.

Manhart went the distance on the mound, giving up five runs on seve hits, two walks and striking out one.

Dieterich then handed Windsor/Stew-Stras a 15-7 loss behind 13 hits.

Kambryn Mellendorf led the way with two singles, a double and three RBI. Ava Benefiel added two singles and four RBI. Lydia Kreke had a single, double and an RBI while Addison Icenogle and Ali Koester had a single and two RBI each and Nora Wente and Mackenzie Roedl had a single and an RBI each.

Wente finished with the pitching win, going 3.2 innings, allowing on two runs on five hits, no walks and striking out one.

Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by Reese Stigers and Callie Holland with two singles and two RBI each, Laney Banard with two singles and KJ Althoff with a single and an RBI.

Lucy Haarman tossed a three-hitter with five walks and four strikeouts in the win.
