The Effingham Unit 40 Board of Education has reinstituted charges for breakfast and lunch for district students.

Superintendent Andy Johnson said the District ended up “in the hole” on the free meals, as government reimbursement has not been what was hoped.

Lunch prices are now $3.40 for Grades K-8 students, $3.65 for Grades 9-12 students, and $4.15 for adults. Breakfast prices are $2.90 for Grades K-8, $3.00 for Grades 9-12, and $3.50 for adults. Milk costs $.40.

Johnson reminded that income-eligible families can still qualify for free or reduced price meals.

The Board also reappointed member Jane Willenborg to represent Unit 40 on the Illinois Association of School Board governing board, and reorganized the district’s committee makeup and will announce the committees’ meeting schedule once they’re finalized.

The Board voted to allow sixth graders to play on the junior high baseball team to insure better numbers. 7th and 8th graders will have preference as far as playing time.

Board members also approved several hirings, including Whitney Yocum, Adrien Fitzjarrald and Whitney Shimboff as teacher assistant at Little Hearts Early Childhood Center; Raegan Boone as junior high B-team softball coach; Noel Ritchey as mid-day bus driver; Sandy Feldhake as mid-day bus aide; Chelsea Wakefield as three-hour cashier; Erika McSparren as health care supervisor; Aspen Payne as a paraprofessional; Cindy Curry as a three-hour cook at the junior high; and Kim Deters as a two-hour cashier at the high school. The Board also approved Katie Klosterman as a volunteer assistant girls golf coach.

Resignations were accepted from Destiny Marxmann as a paraprofessional; Jared Parmenter as a custodian; Peyton Rueter as a two-hour cook; Brooke Overbeck as a paraprofessional; Austin Finn as a custodian; Connie Habing and Breanna Miller as lunchroom supervisors; and Jori Ashmore as a paraprofessional.
