Effingham County State’s Attorney Aaron C. Jones has formally announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for the vacancy in the office of at-large Judge of the Circuit Court for the Illinois Fourth Judicial Circuit created by the retirement of the Honorable Douglas Jarman.
The Fourth Judicial Circuit includes the following nine counties: Christian, Clay, Clinton, Effingham, Fayette, Jasper, Marion, Montgomery, and Shelby. Jones will run in the Republican primary on March 17, 2026.
Jones was appointed as Effingham County State’s Attorney in 2022, and has served in that role since that time. He was most recently elected in 2024. Prior to serving as Effingham County State’s Attorney, Jones represented clients in private practice for nearly 14 years with Taylor Law Offices, P.C., with offices in Effingham and Flora.
Jones is a graduate of Effingham High School. He obtained his bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois prior to graduating with a law degree from Regent University School of Law. Jones resides in Effingham with his wife, Jennifer, and their three children. The family attends and serves at Christ’s Church of Effingham.
“It has been my privilege to represent the People of the State of Illinois as Effingham County State’s Attorney,” Jones said. “Both my background as a prosecutor and as an attorney representing private citizens in a wide variety of practice areas has given me the perspective and experience necessary to uphold the law and decide cases with fairness and impartiality, in order to ensure justice is done. If elected, it would be my privilege to serve as an At-Large Circuit Judge for the Fourth Judicial Circuit.”
