Avoiding a three-game sweep, the Chicago Cubs came through with a 10-3 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers Wednesday.
On the first pitch of the game, the Cubs’ Michael Busch hit a home run to right center.
The Brewers came right back in the bottom of the frame. With two outs, William Contreras homered to left field to tie the score.
The Cubs then had a four-run third. With one out, Kyle Tucker singled followed by Seiya Suzuki earning a walk. Pete Crow-Armstrong then doubled to right and Tucker scored. Carson Kelly grounded out on a fielder’s choice as Suzuki was out at home. Crow-Armstrong took third. Nico Hoerner drew a walk and Moises Ballesteros doubled clearing the bases for a 5-1 lead.
Chicago added on three more in the sixth and finished with two in the ninth.
Cubs starter Shota Imanaga struck out eight, gave up three runs, five hits and did not walk a batter in five innings.
The Cubs have a day off and return to action Friday, playing host to Baltimore. Cade Horton is set to take the mound for the Cubs.
At St. Louis
Only two runs were scored and those were by Miami in the 2-0 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals Wednesday.
With one out in the third, Edwards singled. Jesus Sanchez then stepped to the plate and hit a 439 foot shot to centerfield and that’s all the runs it took.
The Cardinals finished with five hits in the contest. Nolan Arenado, Jordan Walker, Brendan Donovan, Alec Burleson and Thomas Saggese had a single each.
The Cardinals are back in action Friday night at San Diego.
