Effingham County 911 board members Tuesday acquired a Rapid Warn Automated Tornado Siren Activation system.
The system will cost just under $23,000. Also, the system will set off sirens, not the 911 dispatchers. The thought is that the dispatchers would be freed to address other responsibilities.
911 board member Dave Mahon said with the recent severe weather and flooding across the nation, the project looks like money well-spent.
The Board also heard that the County 911 dispatch center renovation has been completed. It’s the first renovation since 911 went on-line in Effingham County 30 years ago.
