Altamont city council members Monday heard two presentations on economic development projects.
One proposal was submitted for the former El Rancherito building at Schmidt Park. Juan Carlos Jacinto and Mandy Vergara have proposed to purchase the building. They would then renovate the facility and develop a family-style sports bar and grill. Jacinto and Vergara said they have similar operations in Mt. Vernon, Salem, Collinsville and Edwardsville. The City would lease the ground on which the building is located. No action was taken Monday.
Also taken under advisement was a proposal from Ron Myers for Brad Smith for use of the former Altamont Independent newspaper building at 1 West Washington. Part of Myers’ proposal is that Goldie’s Baking Company might use part of the building for manufacture of custom baked goods and perhaps some retail space.
The Council agreed to close a street on August 11 for Altamont Lutheran Interparish School to host a Touch a Truck event, and they granted permission to hold the County Fair Parade on July 27.
Council members adopted a Return-to-Work policy for City employees recovering from injuries. The policy involves light-duty work in cooperation with the employee’s doctor’s okay. The salary of Altamont’s representative on the Illinois Municipal Electric Association’s Board Larry Taylor was raised from $2,500 to $3,250.
