Stephen Seth Hosick was born on November 18, 1972, in Paducah, Kentucky, the son of Stephen Turner “Bubby” and Carla Sue (Allen) Hosick of Rosiclare, Illinois, where he was brought home to and lovingly welcomed by grandparents, aunts, and uncles.
Seth attended elementary school at Stone Church in Midway until the completed construction of a consolidated Hardin County K-12 in Elizabethtown, Illinois, where he graduated, voted “most daring” by his peers, in 1990. He went on to obtain an associate degree from Southeastern Illinois College in Harrisburg, Illinois, which he followed up with a major/minor in Political Science/Human Resources at Sangamon State University, now University of Illinois Springfield in Springfield, Illinois.
Seth held many titles throughout his career as an intern at the Illinois State Capitol Building, housing inspector for Illinois Department of Human Resources, his longest as Assistant Director of Human Resources for University of Illinois Medical Center, and finally as
Director of Human Resources for Chicago State University. Although his career may have been cut short by a crippling back injury, his achievements were a testament to his personable, witty, and sometimes stubborn personality that so many have come to love.
Seth was a life member of the Newton Masonic Lodge #216, having been a member since 2003. He enjoyed fishing, spending time with his friends and his cat, and was an excellent cook.
Seth leaves behind his sister Kate Hosick of Rosiclare, Illinois; aunts Janet (Scott) Mohler of Newburgh, Indiana; Linda “Susie” (Mike) DeArmon of Palm Coast, Florida; and a special cousin Leslie (Cox) Horstman of Evansville, Indiana; as well as many others first,
second, and third time removed.
Seth was no less than a small-town legend in his hometown of Rosiclare. His mischief and comedic ways, kind heart, and witty nature have left behind a great many stories not only told by locals and residents of his hometown but by family, friends, and acquaintances from all stages of his life both near and far. He brought joy and laughter, often a good debate, so much fun, and has no doubt left an impression on so many throughout his life. He will be terribly missed by us all.
Seth was preceded in death by his parents Stephen Turner “Bubby” and Carla Hosick of Rosiclare, Illinois; his grandmother Loeta (John) Wolf of Springfield, Illinois;, grandparents Joseph Lawrence “Joe” and Ernesteen Hosick, Jr of Rosiclare, Illinois; his beloved aunt Cynthia Hosick Farmer of Evansville, Indiana; uncles Larry (Rosie) Allen of Rockford, Illinois; and Stephan Allen of Rosiclare, Illinois; as well as “uncle” Robert “Bob” Foster of Metropolis, Illinois.
