The Illinois Commerce Commission has authorized the installation of new automatic warning devices and highway approach improvements at the South Maple Street highway-rail grade crossing of the CSX Transportation’s track in Montrose.
“The ICC is pleased to allocate Grade Crossing Protection Funds to bring important rail improvement projects to fruition. New signals and circuitry will improve safety for all who use the S. Maple St. crossing,” said ICC Commissioner Michael T. Carrigan.
The total estimated cost of the signal design and construction is $461,989. ICC Staff recommend the Grade Crossing Protection Fund (GCPF) be used to pay 95 percent of the signal design and construction costs, in an amount not to exceed $438,892.
CSX will pay the remainder of the signal design and installation costs, and the entire cost of future maintenance of the signals and circuitry. The Village of Montrose will pay all costs of future maintenance of the highway approaches.
All work is to be completed within 18 months from the order date.
