ALTAMONT -- Altamont's Ray Hanna had a good day all-around at the Effingham County Fair harness racing Tuesday.

Hanna, who not only owns horses, but also trains and drives them as well, picked up his fourth training victory and his first driving win on the week. He now ranks as the second leading trainer of all time with 37 career wins and is one of the top five winningest drivers of all time at the Effingham County Fair. He stands third in driving victories behind Randall Finn and J.D. Finn with 43 wins.

Hanna's Dontevnthinkaboutit picked up the first win of the day with an exciting finish in the 2 & 3-Year-Old Open Pace, Division I. Mike Brink, who is leading the driver's standings this week, pushed added points to his score by taking Dontevnthinkaboutit to the win in 2:02 3/5. Dontevnthinkaboutit trailed Mrs West One at the start but moved up to challenge and then went head-to-head by the three quarter mile marker.  The race then went four horses wide down the homestretch with Dontevnthinkaboutit pulling out the victory.

Hanna then took another horse he trained to victory in the Illinois Conceived and Foaled Maiden, 6-Years-Old and Under Trot, Division I. This time around, Hanna also did the driving. Powerful Lane broke stride at the start of the race, but came back strong and ended up winning easily in 2:10 3/5.

Brink again added to his point total as leading driver when he took Bernice G Hanover to victory in the 3-Year-Old  Open Trot. Bernice G. Hanover, picking up five wins this season, battled My Belle, who has had six wins in six starts. My Belle faded to finish third while Bernice G Hanover won by a nose to give Brink his fifth win on the week. What is astounding about the win is Bernice G Hanover is in foal and can race, according to a veterinarian, until she is seven months along.

Several local owners and drivers were featured. In the 2 & 3-Year-Old Open Pace, Division II, Bad As Bart, owned by Altamont-based Bart Seales, went the distance for driver Darla Martin in 2:00 3/5, the best time of the week. Shady Maple Bullet took the early lead and opened the lead to 2 1/2 lengths on the back straightaway. Bad As Bart trailed but moved to take the lead by a neck before the three quarter mile marker. Bad As Bart picked up a seventh win in a row and the second one in three days after winning at the Bond County Fair in Greenville last Saturday.

The fourth race of the day, the Non-winners $7,500 Lifetime Pace, went to Become Legendary. Owned, trained and driven by Newton's Dane May, Become Legendary took the lead by a half length over Cyberchat then pushed that to three with an eighth of a mile remaining. Become Legendary won in 2:03 3/5 and by 2 1/2 lengths.

Another Newton driver, Jared Finn, claimed the final race of the card, the ICF Maiden 6-Year-Old and Under Trot, Division II. Finn, who also trains Whosyoursfilly, went the distance in 2:13 1/5 after taking an early lead. The race ended up in a photo finish, but Finn, behind Whosyoursfilly, pulled out his second win on the week, this one in 2:13 1/5 for owner Stan Holsapple of Toledo.

Racing continues Wednesday with a 1 p.m. start time and finishes out Thursday before thoroughbreds take the field Friday with a noon start.
