BSE, Dieterich, CHBC Claim Girls Opening Basketball Wins

TOLEDO -- Brownstown/St. Elmo High School opened the 2019-20 girls basketball season with a 53-32 victory over Cumberland Monday evening.

 

The Eagles stepped out to a 16-4 opening quarter lead behind Campbell's eight points and led 27-18 at halftime. BSE then had a 15-7 third quarter surge.

Three players hit the double digit mark. Claire Wilhour led the way with 16 points, six steals and six assists while Campbell added 13 points and six rebounds and Obelrink had 10 points and led on the boards with 13.

Cumberland had two players in double figures. Z. Mitchell tallied 13 points while S. Carr added 10.

At Dieterich

Dieterich claimed both a junior varsity and a varsity victory over Robinson Monday evening.

The Movin' Maroons edged out to a 12-7 opening quarter lead and led by six at halftime, 27-21. The Maroons then pushed into high gear in the second half with a 15-5 third period and an 8-4 final quarter.

Three players scored in double figures for the winners. B. Locey led the way with 13 points while A. Bierman added 11 and K. Johnson 10.

Cumberland was led by Goff with 10 points.

Dieterich also nabbed the junior varsity contest, 44-40.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City took command early and never let up in a 64-37 victory over South Central Monday.

CHBC ran out to an 18-4 opening quarter lead and led 32-15 at hafltime. Jaelyn Robertson was the lone player in double figures but 10 players scored in the contest. Robertson tallied 18 points on six field goals and six of six at the line. She also pulled down six rebounds and had six assists. Sydney Lorton led the Bobcats in steals with five.

South Central was led by Halle Smith and Laney Webster with 14 points each.

CHBC also nabbed the junior varsity win, 54-43.

Olney played host to North Clay (Louisville) and captured a 70-45 victory Monday evening.

The Tigers stepped out to a 22-15 opening quarter lead and led 34-22 at halftime.

The Cardinals were led by M. Lovett with 27 points on 10 field goals, that included three trifectas, and four of six at the line.

Olney was led by A. Blank with 25 points, K. Weiler with 15 and T. Hughes with 13.

Olney also nabbed the junior varsity game, 26-24.

Moweaqua Central A&M opened the season with a 50-26 victory over Neoga Monday evening.

Central A&M edged out to a 12-10 opening quarter lead but Neoga moved ahead 20-19 at halftime. Central A&M then had a 16-2 third quarter and a 15-4 final period.

Neoga was led by Sydney Richards with eight points and Audrey Ramert with seven. Ramert led in rebounds with 11 and Richards pulled down 10. Neoga will play host to Arcola Thursday.

Neoga claimed the junior varsity contest, 34-19.
