Stew-Stras, St. Anthony, Teutopolis Headed To Eighth-Grade State Volleyball Tourneys

SIGEL -- Stewardson-Strasburg claimed the championship of the Class 8-1A Sigel St. Michael Volleyball Sectional Monday.

Stew-Stras defeated Mulberry Grove, winning the opening set 25-8. Mulberry Grove came back to take the second set 25-20. Stew-Stras then won the match 25-12.

The Comets were led by Edie Wittenberg with seven aces and 21 assists, Karly Wetherell with 16 kills and three blocks and Ava Harris with six digs and three blocks.

Stew-Stras advances to the Elite Eight with a 23-2 record and will meet Washington St. Patrick Friday at 8:15 p.m. at Kankakee Bishop McNamara.

At Sigel

At Nokomis

 

Effingham St. Anthony is headed to the Class 8-2A State Tournament.

Effingham St. Anthony came out a winner in three sets over host Nokomis for the Class 8-2A Sectional title Monday evening.

The Bullpups won the opener 25-23. Nokomis came back to take the second set 25-17. St. Anthony then took the match 25-21.

Reese Hoene led the Bullpups in kills with 15 and blocks with eight. Madelyn Gilmore had 15 assists and led in aces with seven.

St. Anthony will now head to the Class 8-2A State Tournament at Auburn High School Friday. The Bullpups are now 16-11 on the season and will meet Bourbonanis St. George with a 10-5 record at 7 p.m. The winner advances to the semifinals and finals Saturday.

At Nokomis

At Paris

Teutopolis downed Arthur in two sets to win the Class 8-3A Paris Mayo Sectional Monday evening.

The Wooden Shoes won 25-14, 25-10 and improved to 22-4 on the season.

Emma Isley led the winners in assists with six and kills with three. Ella Willenborg had 11 aces and seven digs. Lynea Einhorn led in blocks with two.

The Shoes are headed to Pana High School Friday for the Class 3A State Tournament. T-town will take on Eureka with a 24-3 record, at 7 p.m.

The winner advances to the finals Saturday.

At Paris
